No mention of Hotseat.

Post by MrsWargamer »

I think it is fairly apparent to a lot of us here that there is hotseat for those of us that have read enough threads.

Just mentioning that there is no mention of hotseat anywhere on the product page. Unless you are assuming that 1-2 players is magically going to make newcomers realize that means hotseat.

Figured I would bring it up. Clarity is it's own reward.

Play with Barbies 05% of the time.
Play with Legos 10% of the time.

Shopping 60% of the time.
Exlains why I buy em more than I play em.

Is hotseat even a thing in PC gaming? In a console, designed for multiple people to use with multiple controllers available, I can see it, but the "hotseat" in here just means "Ok you can get carpal tunnel and wear out my ctrl key now".

There isn't really anything in the game designed to support it - no side based fog of war for example. To use a term like hotseat I think you might want to have more features to support that than just "no AI".

While I think hot-seat is a miss nomer there is still some use for it but maybe not in the triditional way... When thinking of Hot-seat most people think of it as having to be seated in the same place in the same building, and in the same room using the same computer....

But with the internet this isn't so anymore. I had mentioned this before but I could play against Kylania in Tigers on the Hunt and we could be in different countries now-a-days.

How you ask... I know that skype (voice program) allows you to share your computer screen with someone your talking with. I use it all the time to help my (none computer knowledge friend) to install games and find where he saved his pictures.

When you are using hot-seat you are doing the same thing... looking at the same screen, at the same time, so now that everyone has internet connection you can "look at the same screen, at the same time" and with the voice connection as well it is just like sitting in the same room, and playing the same game on the same computer but you can be hundread of miles away.

So while hotseat isn't what is use to be, it can still be a thing if people put their minds to it and use the tools available.

Yeah, I could play a scenario right now with you. You connect to me with skype, I share my screen with you and we can play
Human vs Human. You of course would have to tell me what units you wanted to move and where, or you would tell me what units
wanted to defensive fire, ect..

I would have to control your units for you since you are just watching from your computer, but yeah we could play. Its not ideal
but hopefully you get the gist..

Share screen... meaning you can watch. You don't have control of units but I would do whatever you told me to do with your units.

If someone wants to we could deminstrate this in the next live stream tomorrow. You would have to have skype, a mic, and a deasent internet connection and we could see just how feasible this option is for players who want to hook up and play...

idjester, have you ever tried using TeamViewer? I've done some testing, and it's not too bad. This allows the remote user to interact with the game on a remote computer. The software is free for personal use.

So if both people were signed into the same computer could they both enter their own moves as a true hotseat?

You know that gets me thinking... you coud use remote desktop connection or a few other programs so that the person connecting would be able to have access to the mouse and be able to move units around, click on things, ect... that might help. So I am going to do some testing today and figure out a few things.

z1812, yet that is correct. It looks like idjester has started another discussion, with a youtube video.
