Announcing . . . 2018 Tigers on the Hunt Scenario Design Contest

Post by DoubleDeuce »

2018 Tigers on the Hunt (TotH) Scenario Design Contest . . . .

I am proud to announce the official start of my 2018 Tigers on the Hunt (TotH) Scenario Design Contest. All are welcome to participate no matter if you have ever created a scenario before or have created many. To participate, you only need the base ‘Tigers on the Hunt’ game engine, no Mod’s or DLC are required and only content found in the base game can be used for your scenario creation.

Attached to this post you will find a Scenario Design Contest Packet. The packet includes the following files;

• 2018-TotH_Scenario_Design_Contest.pdf (rules and guidelines for the contest)
• TotH_Scenario-Design-Contest-Template.scn (the base scenario file, includes the contest map that you will use as the foundation to build your scenario with)
• TotH_Scenario-Design-Contest-Template.txt (base text file for documenting your scenario information)

Please make sure to READ through the entire the 2018-TotH Scenario Design Contest document so that you have a full understanding of the contest requirements.

Once you have done that, load up the TotH_Scenario-Design-Contest-Template.scn file in TotH and start creating (be sure to make backups of your work).

Also, I would recommend using the .txt file to document your designer notes as well as your scenario details so it is all in one. You can be as detailed as you want.

Any questions or comments, please feel free to post them in this thread or if you think it might give away some of your scenario information, just shoot me a PM and I will happily provide you back with an answer via PM.

NOTE: While there will be a prize awarded, I encourage anyone who just wants to take a shot at scenario design, even just for fun, to participate. You might be surprised what you can come up with and how well it plays.

For anyone that has downloaded the files and is pretty sure they are getting involved in this (or even considering it), please post here so I can get an an estimate of how many scenarios I might be dealing with when it comes time for judging.

Hi Double Deuce,

Congratulations for the nice challenge you had the idea.
Well, it's decided: I dare to embark on the adventure!
You can register me as a 'competitor' at this level:
'a little more than beginner'. [;)]
I hope my future scenario will not be too disappointing for the community of players
but I'm sure this will be the perfect opportunity to learn (and exchange) a lot of things
as for the rules and finesse of this great game!
I wish the greatest success to your initiative, as well as a great future to the creation of Peter.
And of course, I do not forget Jörgen, any more than all the fans who will recognize...

Sincerely,
Lilian [LN59]

Post Scriptum: Hum, the map is attractive => To your digital sandboxes, Ladies and Gentlemen! [8D]
Spoiler: as soon as I saw the map, I recognized the place!
It's France, the western part of the country & summer 1944 (IMHO). [:D]

Hi, UP844

It's great, this game!
I feel we are going to travel all over the continent.
It's amazing what the same 16 x 20 hexes tiny map can inspire...
I'm just looking forward to tasting all that.
Good fun in the realization of your scenario, UP844.
I'm trying to make mine your AI-friendly motto! [;)]
See you soon,

Lilian

Absolutely right.
There is as much fun to create a scenario as to be crushed in that of another!
A good way to learn. And to win, sometimes. [:D]
Although TotH may seem arid to fans of special effects or turkey shooting,
you who are in a hurry, go your way!
Thank you Big Ivan, Genesismwt, Idjester, Okiefire, Rico21...

What about Matrix getting behind this and publicising the contest on its front page?

In. I saw West front in map [but minus hedges]... First idea is fragmented units clashing on the fringe during a larger push like Operation Epsom...perhaps some lost Highlanders from the 15th Scotts Div running into a hasty 10SS recce/arty gaggle.

Just a reminder . . . There is a 2 month design window before you have to submit your scenario so take your time and have fun.

Just giving this a bump and reminding everyone that there are 5 weeks left so plenty of time for anyone still sitting on the fence to get involved and work up a scenario. [:D]

To make sure the 'concept is valid' and guidelines workable, I'll be designing my own entry for the contest (not eligible for being judged). I'll also use that process as the basis for a 'Scenario Design Guide' that I am trying to put together.

BTW, anyone already in or considering on getting I on the contest, there is still plenty of time with a little over 1 month design time remaining. [:)]

Thanks DoubleDeuce, I think the map represents the European Theater of Operations sometime in 1944. I like the challenge - I have a little something in mind.... What is the drop dead date for submissions? Oct XX, Nov XX??

Just a note as I do not believe I specified in the documents. You can either send your finished contest submission to me via PM on the forums here or via email to doubledeuce@combat-campaigns.com (if you email it, please send me a PM so I can verify it was received and not deleted by my email server spam filters)..
