Issues

Post by Tiger88_slith »

Hello - huge fan of this game! My issues are:

Choppy game play - especially the PC side.
PC fire sequences are painfully slow and choppy and I miss the action meaning the pc shoots and seconds later the word text finally appears.
Both sides when moving is very slow.

I have 16 meg w/ windows 10 and all drivers updated as well as the current versions of the game and I play on 27 inch monitor.

Is there any advice for me on setup or pc settings you could recommend?

Truly hoping that you can help me!

Thanks so much in advance!

Hi,

If you make a DxDIag report and paste here we can help you more easily. Here is a link to a post describing how to do it: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/fb.asp?m=4102036

Okay it looks like your CPU is having a hard time at some situations. I would try the following:

1. Free up the CPU from other tasks. You can do this with a free program like Razor Cortex, I'm using it on my Laptop. It lets the game have more CPU resources for the game. It is reported to work for some people so try it.

2. Large scenarios with many units and many maps could be your problem. The LOS engine is using a lot of CPU power on those. This can be lowered by altering the Daylight Visibility in the scenario. To do that follow these steps. Open the scenario in the Scenario Editor, choose settings and then Scenario Attributes. In the Daylight Visibility Roll Down list choose 14 Hexes or lower

Try this and let us know how you get on.

Just a follow-up support comment regarding what Paullus mentioned.

Razor Cortex works pretty well for me on my rig. I'm running Win7 64 bit and the speed of the game is markedly
faster when I use it. Has been ever since.

Good Luck![:)]

Hey Big Ivan and Paullus - thanks so much for the help! The game is improved but still choppy at times. I take it with Razor I just did the Tweak and Boost...is there anything further I can do?

Also - not sure if I should post this here - but how in the heck does one use the On-Board Artillery? For the life of me I cannot figure this out and I have searched the net with no avail...there are videos on Off-Board...any help there for me would also be appreciated!

Tiger88_slith,

The Off-board artillery is explained in step by step process - the section 9.4 of the manual.

Like Peter said Off-Board is handled pretty well in the manual. As for On-Board like mortars and howitzers I've only ever used it in direct fire mode.

It can be deadly for sure. [:D]

The scenario I am playing has "on-board" artillery- but unless I have LOS to an enemy unit I cannot use it. That's why I was asking for some help. Thanks again!

On-board artillery can only fire at targets within LOS so no indirect fire is possible.

No more suggestions I'm afraid for the stuttering issue.

Sorry, yes on-board artillery only fires in direct fire mode.

Hey Steve,

I thought that was you. Trying your hand at Tigers on the Hunt I see. You won't be sorry, it is a fun game!!![:D]

Wait 'til you get a critical hit on a target in a building and rubble it. Oh the satisfaction of it all. With the
new Update5 and the Normandy DLC it will be that much better. This coming February will be the 3rd anniversary
of TotH and as you can see this game has a pretty good following on this forum. There is also some videos up by idjester over
on YouTube which are very helpful in learning the game. Peter and Paulus are also a wealth of knowledge for any questions you may have.

Finally, just so you know Warhorse plays TotH too. We talk about it
sometimes when we're not busy with CS.

Still keeping up with Campaign Series I hope? Lots of good stuff coming up in the months ahead with that engine too.

Kind Regards my friend!

Hey John - yes still playing my favorite games with the CS! Been playing them since the old Talonsoft days! Looking forward to the new Nam game coming out. Will be great fun!

With TOTH I grew up like many of us on the SL and ASL board games and to have that now on a computer is like a kid in a candy store! Great stuff - just now thinking I need to buy a new pc to play the larger scenarios!

Good to see you and Mike jumping into this one!

Let me know if you would like to lock swords in some CS!

Appreciate you jumping onto this thread here!
