Spending political points

Post by FroBodine »

Is there any reason to spend political points to increase diplomatic rating of a country you are at war with?

For instance, in the 1805 campaign, you begin the game at war with Russia. Their diplomatic rating is a one, I think.

Is it a waste of points for me to increase their rating? I increased it to five, but they remain at war with me.

I guess I'm just not sure how these diplomatic ratings work. Is there any reason to increase diplomatic ratings of countries you are at war with?

Yes, I watched the tutorial video, but it didn't say anything about my question.

Thanks!

Once you are at war with a major nation, you will remain at war until that nation is defeated (or, heaven forbid, you are). Spending political points doesn't change that.

In fact, it's wasteful to do so because once you defeat that major nation, its diplomatic rating will be set to 6 regardless of its current rating.

Maybe the game could simply prohibit the player from wasting these political points.

I agree with Erik. Why even let us put points into a nation we are at war with? Just grey that option out when at war.

In a word, yes. Usually. You can declare war on Prussia and the Russians can use that as an avenue to advance against you.

If you have the Treaty of Tilsit card you can force Russia into making peace if you eliminated 7 or more Russian units in a single battle within the last 3 turns.
