A World at War

Post by jamesjohns »

Anyone ever play "A World at War" by GMT board game? Like many others here, I grew up pushing cardboard armies around (in the BC days; before computers) Still like to play a board game once in a while; still play Rise and Decline of the Third Reich once or twice a year, Advanced Squad Leader, so forth. Sounds like World at War is the descendent of 3rd Reich but is a "monster" game. Complixity doesn't worry me too much (after all we play WITPAE !) More interested in playability and enjoyment of the game and how much time it takes. Also how well does it play as a solo game?

Thanks for the input

Never played it.

Wish I could find a reliable person to play some board games locally. I had a friend from work, but he transferred out of the area... Again. I shoulda stop beating that dude so bad.[:D]

I too am an old board game hand, but the thought of set-up, especially on the monsters (truly my favorites), or cat strikes just leave me in noo noooo! land anymore. I keep a couple handy for hurricane season (Ambush and RAF, two solitaire titles), but it seems setting one up and starting to play miraculously speeds Florida Power and Light's efforts to get the juice back on...although that in itself is handy. I'm trying to remember the last time I put cardboard to paper, I think it was probably Drang Nach Osten perhaps 25-30 years ago. I have the Australian Wargame Group 'World at War' (now on computer, which I don't have) , but I'm not familiar with the title you mention.
