Guadalcanal Scenario a few questions

Post by ggeilman »

I am running into a few strange for me at least issues with base building. Fortification in red and air bases with an * that are extremely slow to build. I am obviously missing something, but did not see anything in a perusal of the rulebook.

Also. I am in Nov 42. Have sunk The Zuikaku and the Shokaku for the loss of only the Saratoga. Tassafarunga is mine and Port Moresby is secure. I have a hard time seeing taking Bouganville in the scenario timeframe. Is there much of a reason to continue against the AI?

Forts in red? Are you trying to build fort level 7? They need 25k supplies at all times to build.

Bases with 0(0) port and 0(0) airfield are very slow to build because of their low development potential.

That would explain the issue with the forts. Supply is tight in this scenario so not likely to get to level 7.

Another question, how do you attack ships in a port by air? I am at a loss.

A port attack will target ships in port, but not task forces.

The fewer ships in a port, the less likely the aircraft will attempt to attack them, but will hit the port's facilities instead. I think the manual refers to less then 9 ships and you start to see the targeting of ships drop off. See section 7.2.1.7 of the manual for details.

Thanks for all the info. The less than 9 ships I seem to have missed.

One thing to keep in mind about having fortifications: - If you build the forts first, any building of port or airfield will take longer because the fortifications must be extended along with the new facilities. I rarely build beyond forts 4 unless I expect the base to be a turning point in the war.

Another thing that can make building extremely slow - climates zones: malarial, monsoon and cold.

Yea, outside China I never have more than lvl 3 forts.

Of course units outside bases fortify automatically, thus often having lvl 5 or even 6:
