First flight of an FM-1 was on September 1st 1942 and since it was a proven type, very little testing and adaption was needed and large-scale production was underway in late 1942.

After checking, I understand the question of the OP. Production of FM-1 starts in 05/43, but the first reinforcement air groups equipped with FM-1s from the beginning are showing-up on 01/01/43. Means no replacement airframes to fill-out the groups and to replace losses until production kicks-in four month later. Scenario designer decision (same date in stock and DBB btw). Either the air groups show-up too early or the production starts too late. From what I have read, production started in August 1942, albeit slowly at first, but one source claims that "Early in 1943 General Motors was delivering planes faster than Grumman could and shortly they took over all Wildcat production." This may justify to move the FM-1 production entry date forward to match the appearance of the first FM-1 equipped air groups.

Grumman concentrated on making the Hellcats. But yes, some production could/should start earlier or even adding aircraft in those CD units that disband.
Seek peace but keep your gun handy.

I'm not a complete idiot, some parts are missing! :o
