Minesweepers conducting ASW

Post by Admiral Scott »

If a minesweeper is on an ASW mission, can it still detect and destroy mines?

They can but it can be hard on the minesweeper when the mine detonates against their hull or very close to their hull.
Seek peace but keep your gun handy.

Any ship can be a minesweper. Once.

Some Japanese local minesweepers have an ASW capability. While on local minesweeping duty, will they engage in ASW if a target sub is spotted within their reaction range? With the two features interacting, would one override or prevent the other?
Rice is a great snack when you're hungry and you want 2,000 of something to eat.

They will depth charge to protect themselves as well as any task force that they are in but they are not looking for submarines. Apparently AMcs can be disbanded in port and clear mines in that hex.

This is not correct. I tested minesweeping in Jan 23, AMc have to be in a TF just like a AM or DMS the only difference is AMc sweep their own hex while the big boys will sweep adjacent hexes starting with their own, ACM will maintain minefields while disbanded, just using fuel in the process.

'There are 3 requirements in order to sweep a minefield.
It is either a Minesweeping TF or a Local Minesweeping TF
The TF contains legitimate minesweeping ships
The TF is at it's destination'

Well, maybe things changed:

"District Minesweepers (YMS) and Coastal Minesweepers (AMc) are used by the human player’s AI assistant to form local MS TFs to clean up their local port, if they are available in the port ship list. Mine maintenance (ACM) is another AI assistant function, if they are available in the port ship list."

I was under that impression too, and that you had to check on them occasionally to make sure they were fueled/supplied.

Thanks for the link, and the nice analysis posts from yourself and Trugrit. I'd made a few attempts at "adjacent hex" minesweeping - all unsuccessful - and had privately concluded that it didn't work. Turns out my methods were incorrect!

Two further points

To sweep, TFs must be at sea, i.e. not docked.

Sweeps into adjacent hexes can be attacked as if they were actually in that hex. E.g. You can't park a DMS in a hex adjacent to Bataan and not expect it to get clobbered by it's CD guns.
