About the new manual

Post by littleike »

As we approach the end of this final release i am thinking to reprint one last time the revised manual.

Now thinking that this will be the final manual i would like to have it printed in full colour
on a good glossy paper with an hardbound cover ( something similar to what matrix did with the Gary Grisby WitE manual).

So before i will attempt to sell a kidney to start reformatting and printing by myself is there a chance of such a solution soon from matrix? ()naturally paying!!)

I would be sure not to waste my time and money unnecessary

Many thanks

I would say the odds of such a nice bound manual being printed up special by Matrix for a game this old are very long indeed. Even the original manual it shipped with upon release in 2009 was only about the size and quality of a decent paperback book. Maybe if they branded such a new manual as the defintive "collector's edition" it might sell a few copies but I doubt if it would recoup the printing costs.

I'm sure Matrix won't print any physical manual for this 2009 game. Even WITE2 manuals have been discontinued. I feel so lucky to own one.

You are right, but there is no need to sell new copies, whoever has a witpae copy can be a potential customer.

Do you know the GMT games and their P500 selling policy?

They have a very good method for reprinting their wargames without wasting money.

They look at the users request and then estimate the minimum number of copies and the price to ask for start the activity. When reached the number of users that agree so to justify the investiment they start charging the users and then reprint and send.

I think at least a polling would be useful.

Try setting up a poll or making a pitch to Matrix/Slitherine. You never know. I'm just delivering my opinion based on what I've seen in the past.

Yeah, it would be nice, but I don't have a lot of optimism about it ... sadly ....

I think a poll to have a chance of success should be done directly from matrix or syltherine after:

-an estimate of number of copies and price for each copy needed to justify the activity and a good return of investiments.

-Having the cost publicize the initiative in a newsletter that they send periodically and in the forum specifying the opportunity to buy a full colour hardbounded copy of the reprinted manual asking if interested to buy one. This should be done collecting requests somewhere in their commercial site.

-reached the number of copies needed start the activity, charge the users then print and send copies.

No expiration dates, no risks at all.

Matrix may not investigate unless there is enough of a demand/request/desire for such an item. That demand/request/desire may also be based on the projected price range as well, I mean 500 USD might be a little too high for most people to pay . . .

Also, such an item should only be done when everything is finished as far as updates go. Printing a copy and then having it in a binder would be nice, especially with other items printed to help people understand the game.

And of course that also means that the manual update would need to be finished, a project that has had numerous good people work on it through the years and to the best of my knowledge still not done. As can be seen in this forum, the depth of the game is incredible, thus the manual is truly encyclopedic.
