how capture island

Post by Jusepe131 »

Hi, playing as an ally in the Battle of Guadalcanal, I've taken units to Russell Island, for example, and they haven't captured them.
What could this be?
I've taken an infantry unit and an engineer unit, and there aren't any attacks because there seems to be no enemy.
Thanks!

A picture of your units would help. That said, did the units you landed have any assault value? They would need at least an AV of 1 to take an undefended base. They would also take it the turn after they landed for a non-atoll island, so you may see it next turn.

Cheers,

Okay...I have a 0 value in the AV...does having at least 1 already capture it?

Thank you!

As CB stated, please post a picture of the units on the island in question. And yes, an AV of 1 can be used to capture an island....GP

Capture is only automatic if you have the AV of 1 or more and the location triggers a shock attack (atoll, river crossing). Of course the base would have to be undefended too.
If there is no auto-shock attack, you must order your troops to attack on the next or subsequent turn.
And if your unit AV is all disabled during the landing (common if there is no prep for the target), you must wait until some AV recovers before you attack.
There is always a die-roll chance that the base will flip (surrender without an attack) when your troops are approaching or landing.

Lastly, if you sent an infantry unit and an engineer unit there and you *still* have an AV=0, that's something to keep in mind for future assaults. You can reduce disruption / increase AV by prepping units for a destination, unloading them in purpose-built shipping (APA>xAP>AK-t>AK>xAK) for assault troops, making sure they have adequate supplies for the assault, etc. etc.
