Disaster!! Did not change R&D from Rufe to A6M5 in time

Post by Timotheus »

Ooooooops.
I checked a turn or two before and the R&D factories were blue and at 90%+ research done.
And forgot about them few turns later...

And now I have A6M5 R&D factories which are destroyed instead of researching A6M5 Zero....

How can I edit savefile to repair my A5M R&D factories from 0/28 to 30?

Wish the R&D factories could be "set and forget it" at beginning of game i.e. set R&D on day one and never touch it again all game.

edit: this game is incredibly addicting, even versus AI (thanks Andy!)

AFAIK there's nothing you can do except go back to the day in question. Against the AI that's not too big a deal, as long as you kept your saves.

Oh noes.

Oh well I have moved on.
One of my factories is 30/0 on A6M5 so... lesson learned.

This is THE most aggrevating thing in this game, the automatic switch from R&D to production once a model is researched.

Thanks for the answer.

This "disaster" makes the game more realistic. Never quite understood the reasoning for allowing the Rufe to upgrade to the A6M5. The prototype M5 was a modified A6M3 Model 22, not a Rufe.

Timotheus,

I'd recommend one more thing in the save department. Not that long ago I had a rather serious system crash where I lost most of my stuff. There're some things one my drive that I could probably recover, but forgot how. Didn't matter much because most of it I cared little for, and that which I did I had backed up on a 'stick', including a save of my current AE game. I highly suggest everyone do the same, and of course update every so often, just in case.[;)]

As for me I'm an old timer who comes from the age of the 'save often' days. Its kinda stuck with me all the way. Geezer.[:D]

Do you have the setting for Realistic R&D turned to Off? If so, you can "migrate" the Rufe production factories to A6M5 R&D with no penalty if they are fully repaired. It sounds like you are playing the AI so even if you have this currently turned to On you may be able to change the setting mid-game.

I agree, but in game terms its the way Japan should go. Early on I balked at this path myself, but having played further on against the AI, the 2', and 3's get slaughtered by Allied aircraft. Their air-frame is just too fragile. Might be historical, but... The M5 may not be that much better, but its the best Japan can get until the Sam, and she may be too late to be of much help. Besides her range limits the Sam is the best Japan has for a carrier fighter.

Great idea, didn't even think of it. Might be worth a try.
