Thanks for the additional information Alfred/BBfanboy - bit of a bummer really, to play the game I have to buy AE, update it to the latest issue, add all the art files, then add the Command Line Performance Switches.
Don't know if I really need to buy it that bad - will reflect on it for a while

If you do wind up playing AE then the time spent fiddling with command line switches to get the ones for you will be trivial in comparison to the amount of time that players spend on AE. There is tons of help here on the forum to get the switches right, especially if you read the threads that already exist about that.

Similarly, upgrading to the latest is just 'part of the installation process' if you are talking about adding in the current Beta version, which of course you don't have to do. And it is my understanding that when you purchase the game the download usually reflects the 'latest official' update (not including subsequent Beta releases).

Good luck with your decision.

And a further point, you do NOT need to change the ART files right away, you can start playing the game and when you have that learning curve under control you will have more time and energy to put into swapping art files - which does not affect your game in progress if the art files are compatible with the version you are playing.

My laptop has win 10 on it, not upgraded. I have set the shortcut & exe to Win 8 capability with no increase in speed.
- Could someone confirm if -f -px1280 -py1024 -altFont -skipVideo -dd_sw -archive -SingleCpuOrders -deepColor is the correct cut and paste.
Additionally is it the C:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition exe file or the shortcut on the desktop that I cut and paste the above into it

My desktop is set to 1600 x 900

Thanks

Those are the exact same switches I use on my Win 10 machine and am having no problems with speed. The only difference is that I have the game set to Win 7 compatibility. If I remember correctly, some users were experiencing speed issues in Win 8 as well, so setting compatibility to Win 7 may work for you too.

And congrats on getting AE. You won't regret it.

I having difficulty with including these switches.
When I add the following
-f -px1280 -py1024 -altFont -skipVideo -dd_sw -archive -SingleCpuOrders -deepColor
to the end of the exe file - it doesn't work anymore
If I try it in the shortcut on the desktop it doesn't work either. What am I missing. Do I add it to the exe file and then create a shortcut?
or
Can anyone point me to a step by step way for dummies!!

Thanks

I am working on a guide for that. As a temporary measure, start at post #398 on page #130 of this thread:

ok managed to workout where I was going wrong - I was putting the 'switches' within the "" and not outside. Have now applied it and it seems to have sped up the game.
Thanks

The thread on Windows 10 compatibility problems with WITP/AE is getting pretty weighty and many of us I'm sure are increasingly confused after reading six pages of entries and having tried endless fiddles with switches.
Personally I gave up playing the game on my W10 PC and have dusted off my older Windows XP machine, which makes no fuss at all.
My hope is that Matrix Games one day will be moved by pity and bring forth a nice big fat patch which will force this terrific and ageless game to run on Windows 10 as it should.

The game is fine. It is the fiddling that MS does that screws up the works. The changes in Windows can be adjusted but because of differing hardware there is no "one-size-fits-all" script that Matrix can provide to automate the adjustments.

OK. No patch. But at least someone come up with a COMPLETE glossary of all these switches, what they mean and what they do. A few are intuitive, most aren't.
WITPQS somewhere mentions looking up n. 130 in another thread as starters. I did but I'm still confused. I have no problem in understanding that what we have to work on is the "Target" window. But "-f", "-w", ""-4cpu", etc. etc. etc. No idea.

Ginetto, you are asking people to repeat what has already been posted and discussed in this thread. Please spend some time scanning the pages for things that might apply to you.
The definition of most switches is on page 1, post 19 (thank you witpqs!)

The Command Line Switches are detailed at the beginning of the patch notes. These are found in your AE directory.

Files like "Readme.doc" and "WhatsNew.pdf" are a dead giveaway. Instructions are right there on the first pages:

Hi everyone again
Laptop has Win10
12 gig of Ram
AMD A10-8700P Radeon R6 1.8GHz 64
Received my copy of WITP AE updated it to 1.7.11.24 and reviewed this forum.
Added the following:
-f -px1280 -py1024 -altFont -skipVideo -dd_sw -archive -SingleCpuOrders -deepColor into the shortcut
This sped up the game but it is still slower than the old game - any further advice to help speed up the game?
Cheers in advance
