No, I haven't seen that before. Did you reboot your computer after installing the game?....GP

Re: Fresh install - pink text
I think I had that problem one time in the distant past, and a reboot (per GP) solved it.

Re: Fresh install - pink text
Looking at the Scenario box it appears to have a copy of the scenario window embeded in it when it should just be plain text. I've had this before and it had to do with an attempt to run the game with the wrong/incompatible graphic setting for your system.
I'd start there but it could be either some weird computer setting or more likely the game switches especiically windowed mode.

Re: Fresh install - pink text
Also recently installed on a new laptop, win 11. Still have issues to work out but this one seems to be caused by new version of direct draw. Without -dd_sw switch pink text , goes away when i put it back in.
Re: Fresh install - pink text
I suggest trying Seabee for the installation, then adjust if you want to.

Re: Fresh install - pink text
I had the same problem when I installed the game on my new laptop, last Summer. I solved it by changing the resolution for my full-screen game (I couldn’t use the full resolution of my screen).
Re: Fresh install - pink text
I've tried many resolutions and the Seabee module, various settings and reboots; all to no avail.
I'm stumped.
Thanks for the help.

Have you tried adding the -altFont switch to the command line?
It could be that the font the game uses is not installed in your system.
edit: also with so few scenarios, is the game updated properly? Perhaps you updated the game in a wrong folder?
Re: Fresh install - pink text
Still no luck.
Will try a fresh install.
and review the settings you mention.
I have an extensive font library, but the pathing may be the issue.
Windows 10 mucked about with document folders and onedrive.
Would be good if you could install the game as a basic unzip, and actually direct where files should go.
Running a bran new thinkpad X1 carbon, and the inbuilt graphics chip, only has RGB as a display option. That may be impacting on a game that has lower colour values.
Thanks for asking.

Re: Fresh install - pink text
Yes, the game is not properly updated as is displayed in the screenshot, some scenarios are lacking.
Revising the file WhatsNew.pdf, Quiet China variants and Iroman where included in the same patch (the first in fact) in which the switches were introduced.
So you cannot try the -altFont switch.
The version you are running is showed in the main menu screen (top right).
I think it is the base game v1.00.79.
Just in case, a different problem happened with another game, WPP, but using also OneDrive and a Matrix installer, it was the AV software interfering.

Re: Fresh install - pink text
There are some clues here. If, as Nikel mentions, you are working with the base game which did not support switches, you need to download and run the latest official patch 1.8.11.26a or 26b. Do not be confused by the current work on a new Beta that is not just a patch, but a major change to the game engine. That one is still in development and will require a different install because it does not support all the scenarios that the official patches do. That should get your switches working and making some difference - try with Seabee Alpha again.
Laptops have always been temperamental with this game and its patches. To make the laptop smaller the manufacturers cut out many of the hardware features that a desktop computer uses and the game was designed for desktop computers. One of the things made less capable is the video controller - an entire card on most desktops but a chip on the laptop. That may mean fewer choices in resolution. RGB should not be a problem for the game's relatively simple palette, but third-party maps done with more subtle colours could be hard for your video controller to handle. In addition to video, the interface between the Win 11 Operating System and the laptop hardware may be different than with a desktop. The switches were written to tell the old game how to work with modern Windows OS (8 and up), but probably do not account for the shortcuts a laptop would use to contact the OS. The monitor's requirements may further complicate this. That is why each user has to try various switch combinations to get the best result for their system.
And a further shot in the dark - some players had issues with Windows transparency settings causing "bleed through" into the game when Win10 came out. Setting Windows transparency to "opaque" fixed the problem. Others found that their anti-virus program interfered with the game. It had to be either turned off before game start or the game had to be registered with the program as a safe executable. There may be other Windows settings that need to be optimized.

Re: Fresh install - pink text [Hooray!}
Pleased to announce it's working.
I'd almost given up. Tried numerous combinations of seebee to find a series of triggers that work.
This combo does.
"C:\Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -SingleCpuOrders -pxf1600 -pyf900 -cpu2 -f -deepColor -dd_sw -multiaudio -noFire -altFont -skipVideo -archive
Thanks to all the folks that sent through their thoughts and ideas.
Regards
Andrew

I usually don't read manuals, but I should have.
The -cpu# (where # specifies the particular core) has been found to be very useful on some multi-core systems, especially
Intel processors. - page 11 of the Game Manual .pdf
and yes, this may mean all other gaming will cease for a while.
