idea for a scenario - The Yamamoto Option

Post by aga2008 »

I'm thinking of creating a mod based on the book "Japanese Carriers and Victory in the Pacific: The Yamamoto Option" by Martin Stansfield.
This is built around the assumption that Japan has stopped trying to achieve a balance with regard to battleships and instead would have put all their bets on superiority in carriers. In this scenario Japan dropped building the Yamato in 1937 and didn't start building the Musashi, using all the slipways, steel, money and resources to build up
a secret fast carrier fleet in the same secrecy like they built their giant battleships in reality.
With this phantom fleet ( (c) by Martin Stansfield) in place largely by December 1941 a lot of new options in a Pacific war would be possible.

would anybody be interested in this what-if scenario?

The book was intriguing. I used some of the ideas for one of my Between the Storms variants.

John is our "all things Yamamoto" expert. You should read his preambles to each of his scenarios, there are quite a few. almost all of them revolve around Yamamoto in some way. Some very interesting thinking involved, and some of the very best execution.
