What the AI is doing?

Warplan is a World War 2 simulation engine. It is a balance of realism and playability incorporating the best from 50 years of World War 2 board wargaming.

What the AI is doing?

Post by ncc1701e »

Is there a secret or a special mode to ask the game to dump, each turn in text files, the production, convoys, units information of the AI?

I really questioning what she is doing.

There are things very strange done by the AI. I just wonder if there is a sort of debug mechanism or logs. Otherwise, it would be impossible to understand things I am seeing.

A.I. always does odd things and it is hard to get around at times.

For example in the 1944 SC3 Europe scenario the Russians 100% abandon the Romanian front to attack Berlin if you play the Axis.

OK but how do you debug then?

I play and watch and adjust the influence maps and logic reasoning systems. You can only get so close with a game like this. It is far too complex with many variables to make a perfect A.I. opponent. It is way too inefficient. If you want a challenge players have told me optimal supply with veteran experience is a good match.

SC3 has the same issues. I can stuff the Axis in 1940 in France at the default level the 1st time I played it. A.I. just isn't good enough. SC3 has a good A.I.
Civilization has horrible military A.I. that is even more dynamic than WarPlan. The battlefield changes, the enemies change, the fronts change. So their A.I. is stupid.
Stellaris generally their A.I. isn't very good militarily.
I heard HoI4 A.I. is terrible. I don't play it. But I can see why. It is as difficult as my game militarily but has the element of diplomacy. And they have a team of how many A.I. experts?

Now take Unity of Command. That has set scenarios with a fixed goal that is one directional. It is VERY EASY to program an A.I. there. My A.I. system could work in that incredibly easy.

Order of Battle I assume also. I don't play it.

Any game with a fixed battle field can have an excellent A.I. especially if the human isn't allowed to play the other side.

But the more complex and dynamic the game is the harder to program the A.I.

Big budget games don't have good "AI". WarPlan has a very decent AI, expecting much more is just unrealistic.

I know nothing about the complexity or feasibility of this, but is a "machine learning" algorithm can be implemented, bought, developed?

No. If it could you'd see it in big budget games like Civ6.

And using a server farm for a game of this type or a quantum computer.

Do not panic guys. I just wanted to confirm the method to debug AI.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture

Spock:
V'Ger must evolve. It's knowledge has reached the limits of this universe and it must evolve. What it requires of it's god, doctor, is the answer to it's question, "is there nothing more"?

McCoy:
What more is there than the universe, Spock?

Decker:
Other dimensions. Higher levels of being.

Spock:
The existence of which cannot be proven logically. Therefore, V'Ger is incapable of believing in them.

Kirk:
What V'Ger needs in order to evolve... Is a human quality. Our capacity to leap beyond logic.

Decker:
And joining with it's creator might accomplish that.

McCoy:
You mean this machine wants to physically join with a human? Is that possible?

Decker:
Let's find out.
