Italy Oil from Romani "Blocked"

Post by MattFL »

It's April/May 1940 and i got a message that Italy's Oil from Romania is blocked (convoy screen). So Italy has zero oil. Any ideas?

Status...

Italy Nuetral.
Germans have captured Yugoslavia and Greece.
Bulgaria is with the Germans.

Thanks!

My guess would be...when neutral convoys can travel to neutral countries. Once they join the Axis...they can't.

So Romania...neutral can't send oil through Bulgaria / Greece to Italy.

BUT guessing.

That seems like a very good/educated guess. I would bet the same.

Thanks for the clarification. Wasn't sure what was going on there or what exactly kicks this off. I do recall an event in the game where part of Romania i think goes to Bulgaria or something, so maybe this is what did it. Other than that, stil don't realy understand it as Turkey controls the bottleneck, but will be sure in the future to make sure Italy is where i want them prior to losing all oil.

generalfdog - yeah, i tend to attack the Balkans in T2/T3 including diverting most air and both panzer corps there rather than going for an early attack on France. Attacking France in '39 doesn't really get you anything as the weather is so bad it ends up falling summer '40 regardless of when you start attacking. Plus i like the Germans getting a port on the Med as early as possible.

Also generalfdog - apologies about out WP game. Had some stuff going on last fall that forced me to take a few months off of this type of stuff.

Turkey does not control the bottleneck. There is no rail line from Romania to Turkey...nor a convoy route.

The convoy route from Romania to Italy is overland only. It goes either through Yugoslavia or Bulgaria/Germany.

Since Yugoslavia and Germany are part of the Axis. Italy is still neutral. Neutrals are not allowed to trade with countries at war other than scripted.

I see. I had assumed it would trade by sea from Constanta to an Italian port. But if overland, the moment Greece is invaded triggering Bulgaria to enter, it's gone. Good to know.

Sea lanes used for trading are drawn on the map (whether active or not). For active land trade, you can press "T".

I'm so used to playing Pacific that I never even considered overland trade convoys.
