In the south I turn the Italians east and they manage to create a bridgehead over the river which hopefully will be useful in 1942.

This area between Kursk and Voronezh I find to be the best area to have your 1942 offensive. If the Soviets defend here there are no river or terrain to stop your mighty armoured fist. If they retreat to the river at Voronezh if the Axis have not already taken Moscow then Moscow will be open to an attack from the south as well as west.

Push towards Leningrad close to success only one weak corps stopping the evil guys and I have two turns probably to try and move it.

In the center it is fairly quiet but some action on the rail line here too just a weak corps preventing me from my goal. Not the goal I wanted but the one I set up a couple of turns ago. Otherwise my digital soldiers read about Napoleons campaign in Russia and wait for the first snow flakes to fall even though it is still August :) .

Around Kursk the Soviets also realise the importance of the Bridgehead and try to reclaim it. Mussolinis best withstand the pressure and the bridgehead still in Italian hands. Can they keep it over the winter might be another story.

November 41

No screenshots in september and october awful :) .

But here is the final frontline after the summer. I did get to Leningrad which is under siege.
I am further away from Moscow 5 hexes. I have a slightly better advance in the Southern part of the front but I have not broken into the Crimea. So again a pretty nice more or less historical outcome. I think east front 41 plays out pretty nicely now. Anyone think anything else? :).

I was down to 120 oil at the end of september which is in line with my previous games. I usually am in the range 100-150. Think it depends on how much I use the navy and how much I give to Italy. Nirosi do you remember what your Germans had in oil at the end of the summer?

Happy New Year alternative 1942

41 Comes to an end and here are the forces and casualties at this point in time. On land it seems I have dealt and taken less damage than Nirosi in the other game. If that is good or bad I dont know :) .

To answer your question for German oil, not sure but IIRC around 23-26% at end of Summer? Around that.

Fewer losses are good for the Axis. The Allies want a grind.

Yes I think you are right. Not that easy to achieve that grind though I feel. The German can do it by attacking too much but the allies well UK not very strong and you could argue that the Soviets grinded down the Germans in the real war I feel they have a harder time in the game. If the German force is not taking a fair enough of casualties then they grow hideously strong 42-43. But if they take too much losses they can fall apart quickly. I play a game now I will probably win as the allies in 43 at the latest 44 and I still dont quite understand how the Axis fell apart so quickly but I remember lots of German corps being down to 3-5 strength in the winter of 41 and somehow the summer of 42 was a disaster for the Axis.

Soviets attack here and there. Nirosi had a quicker xp gain than I had so the Soviets did not have to attack that much to reach 50%. Most exciting was a nice attempt to relieve Leningrad. Resupplying Leningrad by air and trying to get across the river. Unfortunately it did not work out and Leningrad fell I think it was in March.

April 42

We jump forward to April as not much happened inbetween. I got a cold weather turn and started the summer campaign of 42. Made much more progress then I thought I would. Moscow already in sight and my thrust in the middle I hope will give the Soviet High Command some headache :).

Here are the forces and casualties up to the start of Summer 1942.

The BoA have been pretty good as the UK Merchant marine is pretty low but I have spent a fair amount of resources on Subs in this game but as you will see the subs have probably peaked in their strength.

Can also mention at this point German manpower at 94% and Soviet manpower was at 81%.

Nirosi had a very nice anti sub defense and even though I built like 14 I had a nice start to BoA but in the end my subs just died :) . Here 2 goes down to say hello to the Titanic.

In the east my breakthrough continues and my target is to try and encircle the Soviet armies in the south and take Stalingrad.

The subs fare badly but it does not matter that much as in the east the offensive is gaining more momentum and Stalingrad falls.

Wanting to help the Soviets I guess the allies launch an invasion at Benghazi in Libya. Unfortunately for the Allies the defenders held the city and since there was no offensive from Egypt in conjunction with the invasion I could shift my German troops to Benghazi area and even though Benghazi actually fell the next turn the Germans could easily mop up the attackers with 1 us Inf corps and 1 UK arm corps surrendering.

I had a decision to make go south and try to destroy the Soviet armies there and capture the oil or go north and I decided to go north.
