Late August 1942

Russia
North - Operation White Night has been a success. Most of the Finnish army has been cut off and are being rounded up and sent to Siberia to dig in the mines. Leningrad seems to be save even after the break...the units around are dig in well enough and most German armor is around Gomel so it is unlikely that they will be able to make significant headway.
Center - Heavy battling continues. At every turn Russian troops flee German units albeit a few small spots where they fight harder. German units were able to breach the river just northwest of Gomel but unable to hold. Multiple Russian armies along with armor and mechanized units were able to push the Germans back who sustained considerable losses.
Southwest of Gomel another breach occurred but Russian units were not able to engage and dug in, knowing that armor will surely cross in the coming weeks.
German armor and infantry continue pushing east but have slowed. Russian air units continue to harass armored units, though to minimal effect. German 88s are and flak panzers and inflicting considerable losses to the raids.
Russian units begin an organized retreat. German units will have to travel over mine fields and anti-tank ditches to continue forward. The Russian lines are getting thinner but for the moment continue to hold.
A huge push is expected in the next month due to expected weather changes. It is unlikely that rain will arrive early enough to spare some Russian lives.
South - Romanian and German forces attack a Russian army that is well dug in. Both sides take about equal losses.

UK / US
Africa - The going is slow. Units are wearing down, but making a push as best they can trying to reach larger ports for supply reasons. UK forces by Tripoli push hard and are able to get within 80 miles of Tripoli but with fuel reserves low they must delay waiting for a resupply. The lines are getting longer and longer. Two Italian corps are overrun so less and less defenders are available. It appears the Germans are heading for the ports and evacuating though that remains to be seen.
Heavy fighting by Tunis with the US 1st and 2nd armor along with the UK 10th and multiple infantry units. They are able to reach Tunis...though unable to take the port, even with UK special forces landing just south of the port.

Battle of the Atlantic
A slight reprieve for the merchants traversing the seas. Lighter than normal losses, even though the Bismarck has set sail and is sinking merchants.

- I am glad you thought they could get to Italy when there was no way they could. It drew away German forces from Russia which might have been able to cause a huge breakthrough. There is no way the Allies can possible land in 42 unless the Italians empty every port and send invitations for free pasta dinners. They need two dozen corps to do that...Along with all of Africa for just air support. Sadly supply is so bad there they have no way to quickly take Africa. Air units can be used 2 times then have to leave the area to recover. If the Allies had 70% experience like the Germans and air bases closer then yes the Allies would take Africa quickly. The rough terrain about Tripoli and east of Bone are brutal to the armor after they have been fighting for a while. Once Tripoli and Tunis fall that should change things...that should resolve the supply issues in the area.
It is not rosy for the Allies. Russia is crippled...their manpower is well below half and they are struggling to hold any sort of line since every 2 to 1 is a win for the Axis and almost always a retreat. I expect there will likely be multiple clear turns in the middle of fall/winter this year and that could cause a major breakthrough for the Germans. I remember those as the Axis and they basically won multiple games for the Axis.

Early September 1942

Russia
A crisp breeze fills the air...
North - Operation Winter Night has completed with the obliteration of the Finnish army. Over 50,000 prisoners have been captured. The Finnish now have no teeth and only 4 divisions remain. One lone German corps stands watch over Helsinki...though Russian units will need time to reorganize before they can make any moves.
Central - German forces keep pressing but the Russian lines hold for the moment. There is time for at least another major drive before the weather turns...though Russian High Command hopes rain comes sooner rather than later.
South - Germans breach the river again north of Sevastopol but get driven back by a massed Russian counterattack. In fact Russian forces further south attack Rumanian forces that start a complete retreat. The Russians pursue but can only get so far. Not sure if it was a wise move with German panzers near but they have to cross marsh and swamp to counterattack.

UK / US
Africa - Simultaneous attacks towards Tripoli and Tunis. Both succeed in mass Italian surrenders and the ports finally in Allied hands. Units also drive to Sousse and capture it and an Italian corps. That last port is Gabes which is manned by the elite Italian mountain corps. German soldiers are getting onto transports and US bombers strike the port sinking a few of the ships. More Italian units and a German division are left behind and expected that they will not likely make it out. The allies have received word that Africa is to be abandoned by the Germans and Italians. Most of the best units have escaped but with Africa finally in Allied hands they can begin new preparations and move in their air units.

Battle of the Atlantic
Minor shipping losses with nothing to show.

Late September 1942

Russia
North - Russian troops start to move towards the last few Finnish cities...
Center - Little occurs here...Germans appear to be digging in for the winter while Russians have already done that watch.
Gomel is where all the action is...the Germans send in multiple panzer corps and are able to take the city...but that is short-lived as hundreds of new Russian T34s pour into the city and drive them out.
South - The Germans send down some stronger troops to shore up their defenses there.

UK / US
Africa - The last port falls to UK forces. Thousands of Italian and German forces are stranded...UK units move in to pin them down. US dive bombers strike at Malta sinking an Italian battleship in port based upon aerial recon.

Germany
US bombers drop huge amounts of bombs on Prague...flames can be seen 100's of miles away in the night sky as the city burns.

Battle of the Atlantic
A few more merchants sink...US and UK ASW are not able to make any headway. They have called in for added support.

-Russian needs the rain...their airforce is nearly extinct...and a rebuild will help their manpower issue. Had to disband multiple units that are not even bothering to convert to armies, that are 20 or 25% experience. Manpower is ALMOST back to 50%...the winter will be a HUGE help for that.

Early October 1942

Russia
North - Russian Calvary decide to try to hold their ground against a Finnish division that enacts revenge and it gets trampled.
Center - German forces make a bold attack in the rain. For the first time in over 100 attacks the Russian infantry decides to hold its ground and gets overrun.
South - Mud slows any and all attacks.

US / UK
Africa
US and UK units begin the long resupply process.

Germany
US bombers get word that German fighters have moved to the Prague area so they decide to pick a new city, Stettin. Factories there take a beating.

Battle of the Atlantic
Large amounts of Merchants are sunk still with little damage in return.
The Uboat seems unstopable.

Late October 1942

Russia - Rain continues on all fronts.
This puts a hold on all attacks on both sides as both dig in and resupply.

UK / US
Africa
US units go on a training exercise with huge success against Italian forces trapped in Africa.

Battle of the Atlantic
Better turn for the Allies...as Uboats take as much as they give.

Early November 1942

Russia
North - Rain continues to pour down...the mud hampers any offensive action here.
Center - Rain here too...mud everywhere.
South - Snow begins to fall...A few German probing attacks...one goes poorly another goes well enough, but the Russians just have units to spare and move in another fresh army and rail down a few more for measure. It is expected that the Germans will continue as they lost a little ground hear due to Rumanian ineffectiveness.

UK / US
Africa
All is quiet. Resupplying continues for units in the area.

Germany
Stettin is bombed heavily. Hungarian BF109s intercept as best they can but they are not trained well enough to attack heavy bombers.

Battle of the Atlantic
The past few weeks have worked out more for the Allies than the Axis. Multiple reports of UBoat hits...but no confirmed sinking. Royal and US navy await better results.

Late November

Russia
North - Snowing.
Center - Snowing...German units strike at a Russian army, both sides taking heavy casualties.
South - Snowing...

UK / US
Africa
The final Italian units surrender to US forces.

Germany
In the largest air raid to date, over 500 B29 bombers and hundreds of B25 bombers pound Essen. Again the Hungarian BF109s rise to meet the raiders but there are just to many...they do inflict minimal losses but lose quite a few aircraft in the battle.

Battle of the Atlantic
Heavy hits reported on Uboats but they still continue to harass shipping. Both the Bismarck and other surface vessals go hunting and the Royal Navy is unable to find them.

Early December 1942

Russia
North - Snowing / Blizzard. Russian units attempt to attack a Finnish division and the Russians get decimated. Losses nearly equal an entire army while the division is unscathed.
Center - Blizzard. No attacks.
South - Snowing. Germany attacks and basically walk into the Sevastopol area. It seems their forces are unstoppable even in winter. Russian High Command is unsure of what they can even do since nearly every attack is 4 to 1 losses while every defense is 1 to 4 losses.

UK / US
Africa
Units are enjoying the sun awaiting orders.

Germany
Over 1000 US bombers absolutely level Essen in multiple raids.

Battle of the Atlantic
Uboats take quite a few hits this turn more so than merchants. Maybe just maybe.

Late December 1942

Russia
North - Russia is able move push forward a bit in Finland, though at a considerable cost.
Center - Russia makes a few attacks here to attempt to weaken the German resolve. High casualties and make minimal progress.
South - German panzers are rolling on Sevastopol. Russians start to dig in in the mountains hoping to delay them but it seems Panzers appear to be unstoppable even in winter. Russian high command has no counter other than to sit and just wait for the inevitable.

UK / US
Africa
No change.

Germany
Essen and Stetten are again heavily bombed...US bombers losses are a little higher but German and Hungarian air take what they give. The US airforce now has over 2000 bombers in the UK and continue to hammer German production

Battle of the Atlantic
Little movement on either side.

Early January 1943

Russia
Snow everywhere. Russia high command has decided to call off all attacks on German forces. It is believed that the Wehrmacht has some sort of technological advantage allowing them to defeat any and all attacks. Russian gypsys are being called in to assist.
North - Snow
Center - Snow
South - German forces using worn panzers and able to walk over Russian forces and cut off an army. It will likely surrender after they see a German soldier walk by.

UK / US
Africa
No change.

Germany
US bombers hit Germany again...as more German Luftwaffe units are brought in. US bombers take a heavy beating but keep Essen and Stetten in flames.

Battle of the Atlantic
End of last year things started to swing, beginning of the year it all changes again...merchants sink and Uboats are never seen.
Royal Navy and US navy try to find German surface ships and are unable to even see each other.

Mid January 1943

Russia
A massive blizzard grips nearly all of Russia...little is spared except for the furthest south region.
Little happens other than Russians gathering forces East of Sevastopol as the Germans armor has taken nearly full control of the Crimea. But Sevastopol still holds out as well as an army in the mountains being supplied by what is left of the Russian airforce. Speaking of...the Russian airforce is slowly...very slowly being rebuilt so that it will have some effect come Spring.
The Luftwaffe is busy attempting to defend the skies above Germany.

UK / US
Africa
More units roll in awaiting the Spring and German preoccupation within Russia. Italy is full of dozens of Germany divisions since more than 60% of the Italian army was defeated.
UK invade Rhodes so that they have another airbase close to Greece.

Germany
Hundreds of US B17 and B25s continue to rain fire on German cities. Once again Essen and Stetten get hit and Cologne is now being struck and reports heavy fires raging in the city.

Battle of the Atlantic
German surface ships move out to the Arctic and sink a few merchants.
UBoats continue their reign of terror though take as much as they give in the past few weeks.

I have a 1 factor cruiser I keep throwing out there to harass the shipping lanes, half hoping it will be sunk simply so I don't risk repairing it with the same stack of subs I've been repairing, and the entire Allied navy has been unable to sink it. It's amazing. It's like it's undead.

I think the sub war may have reached a tipping point finally. I may decide to stop repairing these things and just let them be sunk. The cost to repair is no longer worth the damage they're doing.

End of January 1943

Russia
Snow everywhere...
North - Russian make an attack on a German corps and push it back...they are now within striking range of Helsinki.
Center - Russian make a huge push and breakthrough west of Vitabsk. But it is not likely to hold unless the weather worsens...
A few other attacks that wear down the a German corps...
The Siberian tanks attempt a river crossing and the ice does not hold. Dozens of tanks sink into the icy depths.
Another push west of Kursk drives a Hungarian corps back with considerable losses.
South - German panzers destroy the Russian army in the mountains without a fight. Odd they did not even try as they were fully supplied and within sight of Sevastopol.

UK / US
Gathering up supplies for the Spring

Germany
US B17 and B25 continue to hammer Essen, Stetten and Cologne. They do take considerable losses...but it is believed that they are having an affecting on German production.
Air raid sirens rain above Ploesti and oil supplies are damaged by a surprise raid of B17s...hundreds cause significant damage to the oil refineries.

Battle of the Atlantic
All subs head back to base to refuel though one set head to the US coast.
Royal Navy carriers catch the Bismarck in port and hammer the ship...it is listing but it is not known if it has or has not sunk.

Mid February 1943

Russia
Snow everywhere...
North - Russian units hold to resupply.
Center - Same...Russian units are still holding their precarious position, though the snow is keep the German forces from making a significant attack.
South - German panzers surround Sevastopol...The Unit there is extremely strong...and suspects attack early Spring unless German units move out.

UK / US
Units shifting all around.

Germany
US B17 continue to bomb Stetten, but switch from Essen to Hamburg.
Ploesti is heavily bombed again. US bombers report fighters were spotted but did not engage. Perhaps the snow is keeping them on grounded.

Battle of the Atlantic
Equal losses on both sides. German surface fleets head to sea...they are found and on in the Royal navy gets the better the other, the opposite. Even damaged the Bismarck is formidable...but it is reported to still be listing to port.

End of February 1943

Russia
North - Snow - Russian units attempt an attack on the Fins but they are well dug in repel the attacks.
Center - Snow - Russian units, with new T34/85s attack multiple German units and drive one back and smash into another.
South - Rain - Little happens. German panzers appear to be getting ready for an assault on Sevastopol.

UK / US
Little happening due to weather limitations.

Germany
US B17s hit Stetten and Essen...B25s and UK Wellingtons hit Paris and multiple other locations.
US bombers take considerable damage.

Battle of the Atlantic
For the first time, a report is received that a Uboat has been presumed lost.
The Royal Navy and US navy FINALLY catch the Bismarck and the Tirpitz along with a few older ships.

Early March 1943

North - Clear weather in most of the north...Russian units with the help of naval support drive back a Finnish unit and begin the siege on Helsinki...they are not able to break the German unit holding
Center - Clear weather. Units hold for now while their air units repair.
South - Clear weather. German panzers smash into Sevatapol and the army their fights down to nearly the last man causing significant panzer losses. And with nearly all the panzers in the south the Russian army opens up around Seym...A mechanized army followed by army drive a Hungarian corps west and overrun their HQ.
Just to the north a mechanized army does the same driving the unit south linking up with their comrades surrounding 2 German infantry corps and one panzer corps. Russian newly built airforce units bomb all panzers close by to prevent their coming to the aid of the Seym Pocket. It is unlikely to hold but the Russians are hopeful rains will come in and prevent the Germans from being able to breach their line. They move in multiple armies to backfill the area.

Uk / US
Little happening

Germany
US bombers take time to resupply and rest...

Battle of the Atlantic
Multiple UBoats are sunk. At least 3 meet their fate but do sink a quite a few merchant ships.

Late March 1943

North - The 28th mechanized and 3rd army, with naval and air support launch a massive attack on Helsinki...they are able to drive the Finnish infantry out of the city with overwhelming odds and the 28th mechanized rolls in. The Finnish government contacts the Kremlin and surrenders unconditionally.
Center - Russian units make a few attacks on infantry trying to weaken them prior to the Spring. The attack costs more Russians than Germans.
South - On the heals of the victory in the North, Russian armor and mechanized alone with more than 1000 air units, descend on the German armor that is pocketed. A massive attack in the end yields heavy casualties on both sides but leaves Russian units in a precarious position. Armor overstretched and German armor being railed in. It is likely this is going to turn into a complete Russian disaster. They expect to lost hundreds of tanks and thousands of men. It could be a turning point but that is yet to be known. It is still cold and the Russian forces are hoping for an April blizzard as it may be the only way to survive.

UK / US
More units shuffling around.

Germany
No bombing in Germany as the weather has been abysmal in the UK. It has been snowing for over 3 months, which is the first time in UK history. It is not believed that the UK will be the start of an ice age since this had never happened since the actual iceage.

Battle of the Atlantic
Neither side makes any progress.

- I am stunned that is has been snowing in the UK for 7 turns...that is completely broken. They average 30 snow days a year...and this has been over 100...It has crushed the US airforce bombers because they are not able to recover nearly any efficiency. They appear to gain maybe 5 points per turn...so can't attack.
To add I was shocked that the German tank was able to survive 8 attacks and never once retreated. All attacks were by armor / mech...just crazy. When Russian armor is attacked by one German panzer at 2 to 1 it retreat 90% of the time...
Oh well...that is why we play. This is likely to cost the Russians a few key units...which are irreplicable since they have had manpower issues the entire winter.

I probably could have attacked smarter there and taken out a couple of armored units, but I was really more concerned with getting my armor to safety. As it is, I got good retreat results, but I wasn't expecting or counting on that. For what it's worth the panzer that held was given hold orders, which sometimes seems to be effective, but other times seems to have little to no effect.

I still predict I'll be rolled over by the Soviets soon, but for now the crisis has been mostly averted. Maybe I'll lose an infantry unit or two.

I figured Sevastopol was worth the effort since it's 5 manpower for the Soviets, and it sounds like they've been burning through manpower pretty quickly. We'll see how long it will hold out. ;-)

Early April 1943

Russia
North - Snow and quiet
Center - Snow and Russian Siberians attack a German corps and overrun it...
South - Snow / Rain. Russian armor as expected retreated with single attacks, while Russian units struggle to achieve success. They hit an infantry that is near exhaustion and shatter it...allowing them to surround another and it immediately surrender. More Russian units are currently at risk, and with the way they fight it is unlikely they will have much of a chance. Russian high command is extremely disappointed with how poorly their units are performing.

UK / US
Rain finally comes to the UK...air units are starting to recover.

Germany
Ploesti is hammered...it is at less than 75% production...Rumanian air do little to deter US B17s.

Battle of the Atlantic
2 more Submarines confirmed sunk...but the surface fleet still evades being found.

Russia
North - Clear weather...Germans attack one Russian army in Velikie Luki...Light casualties on both side...
Center - Both side stare across minefields and barbed wire waiting for the other to make a move.
South - Germans smash into the Russian units hammering multiple mechanized and armies...as well as overrunning a mechanized unit.

UK / US
Quiet times...

Germany
Few more bombing runs on Ploesti but dozens of B17s are lost in the attack...

Battle of the Atlantic
