Downloaded and installed, these look great, thanks for your efforts.

Could you tell me where i put the weather.png file, ive tried several folders without luck. I've tried the campaign folders, replaced the weather.png in the New scenario scripts folder and tried the new custom images folders, none of them have worked.

Forget it, i got it to work. I was copying the original file around into those folders...duh.. put the right file into the campaign folder and it worked fine. Thanks again.

I've just been putting the weather.png straight into the campaign subfolders (i.e., the same place as the units.png). Perhaps you haven't seen the effect because your weather has been clear so far? maybe?

Just curious, which flavor of the counters did you use?

Thanks,

I edited my original post. I was copying the original file around to those folders[8|] once i did the right file in the campaign folder it worked fine.

I'm using the round air, rectangle navy counters, they look sweet.

Don't suppose your going to take a swing at doing a map mod? While the map is perfectly functional, it could use some beautification [:D]

Now you're talking true talent requirements...
I too am hoping to snag a map-mod when available from one of the real artists around here. [;)]

Love this mod. Excellent work!

Any plans to make a version that uses the unit icons? (i.e. non-NATO style counters)
Forgive me my old friend...but I must use all my experience, to get home.

I would do that for the folks that prefer non-NATO style counters.... except...
I absolutely detest non-NATO style counters. I find them very confusing and difficult to use.

I'm sure that's just a fluency issue on my part. I grew up playing table-top board games with NATO symbols which are now second nature to me. While I appreciate the work and beauty that goes into Non-NATO soldier/tank silhouette mods, for game play they look ugly to my eye. I almost didn't do air units with silhouettes (but with NATO air symbols instead). But, for some reason air and naval silhouettes don't bother me as much.

Anyhow, with that said, I don't have any plans at the moment. Perhaps I can be talked into it if there is enough demand. Truth be told, the project doesn't excite me individually.

Sorry to be so negative [:(]

I prefer the silhouettes in these type/scale games, count me as part of the demand[;)]

So, when you guys talk about non-NATO silhouette counters, are you thinking black/white tank and infantry silhouettes or the full-color pictorial silhouettes such as escorpion has created in his nice mod

I would think black silhouettes would be best, match your ship and plane silhouettes

Hmmm... maybe I could do that. Just snagging the existing, official silhouettes and dropping them on this mod's counter backs might be fairly easy to do.

It's creating the pictorial silhouettes one-by-one that are painstaking and takes a lot of time and perseverance. I'm currently slogging through that effort right now for the minor countries' air and naval units in the current version of this mod.

Thank you Mark for your honest reply. I do appreciate that.

No need to apologize for being negative because you were not negative at all. You are an artist expressing the truth regarding what your passions are. I respect and understand that.

Back on topic. I understand what you mean about growing up playing games using Nato counters. My first war game was Panzer Blitz followed by The Rise and Decline of the Third Reich. (Yes I am old)

I like both styles of counters and that's because I started my hobby playing games that used both. Do I have a preference? Yes I like the icons because it reminds me of when I was a child playing with toy soldiers. It's my happy place. That being said however if you do not feel the passion to create a mod using unit icons I would recommend not doing so. The love you put into your Nato counter mod would not be the same if you were to create an icon counter mod. Your name as an artist would suffer a bit if you were to put out a second rate mod merely to appease the crowd.
Forgive me my old friend...but I must use all my experience, to get home.

Thanks W8taminute, I appreciate that.

I will probably try to do a "simplistic" icon-based counter set along the lines of what budd and I were discussing a few posts ago. I think that will be fairly easy (I hope).

I too did play Panzer Blitz/Leader, SL/ASL and others with icon silhouettes, but I think I played far more operational/strategic/grand strategy games and that probably drove me to prefer the NATO counters.

Mark,

Many thanks for your images I am using them now!

And by the way it was on both the other Yahoo Groups for Europa Association and the "Europa Corps Level" play-test that you and I have conversed upon (part of our conversations go back to the late 80's and the 90's if I am not mistaken). Do you remember Rick Gayler? He was one of the finest gentlemen war gamer's I ever dealt with.

I still have the 0.8.4 WAA VASAL module and the rules and OOB booklets! Did you ever move forward with those? If so maybe we could talk offline I'd love to hear about it and see where it's all at).

Thanks from and old board war gamer (still love the Europa system).

Way off topic:

Board war games:

ASL (Advanced Squad Leader, all, etc.)
Europa (FitE/SE/Urals, Second Front, Balkan Front, Western Desert/Torch, etc.)
OCS from The Gamers and then by Matrix (i.e. DAK I and II, EATG, Guderian's Blitzkrieg, etc.)
SCS from The Gamers and then by Matrix (i.e. Afrika, Stalingrad Pocket, The Mighty Endeavor, etc.)

Mark,

You have done amazing work!

For the last six months I have been using Alvaro's fine artwork, but your old board war gamer "special Don Lazov" mod has made my day and refreshed my WarPlan view!

Thanks everyone for all the kind responses - I appreciate that.

Zovs, et.al., how are you guys getting those giant images to load? I can't get it to load any file greater than 200KB which excludes any large image.

By all means! I once shared a hotel room with Rich at Origins, many years ago. I haven't heard from Rick in a decade (or two?) - wonder how he's doing.

Wow... WAA! I forgot you were part of the World at Arms thingy. I worked endlessly on that game and in the end the naval system ultimately broke my back and I never completed it. It's unbelievably difficult to get those large, theater/global strategy games to work right - everything from game mechanics to game balance has to be fine tuned and I could never get the naval system right. (Fortunately, the war in China didn't need much naval stuff so War of Resistance got published [:)] )

That's why I have the utmost respect for Alvaro and what he's done with WarPlan!
