Oil Tactic 1st time

Post by Benedikts »

Playing the game 1st time Axis 1939 Grand C. Inspired by historians I had this idea that oil is the main issue for the Axis. Its now 1943 and I my successful invasions have been Poland,France, Balkans, Turkey, Egypt + Suez and Iran. I got plenty of Oil but a soviet Front in north Iran and Turkey apart from the east front and I never really got the push east started as Soviets charged. I believe the suez-blocker is a good thing(?).

On the downside I havnt got Denmark and Norway. So question for the experienced players: Is the go for Iran-oil tactic any good or am I missing out on production maybe?

How important is oil in the game? (vs historicly)

Oil is important for those players who create crazy quantities tank and mechanized units, excess amount of aircraft. And if the allies bomb the oil refineries with strategic bombing

Maybe my play style but Germany has plenty of oil from beginning to the end. They can even send oil to Italy for their fleet.

Depending upon who you play and how you play will determine your oil...

I normally almost run out of oil when the winter of 1941 starts especially with a lot of armor and air...
Considering if you attack with 3 armor for 4 turns against a city you have used 12 oil there...NOW did air support it? Could be 12 more if tactical...24 oil on one attack. Then you "move" and that uses another oil each.

Add to this 6 to 9 subs at sea each turn...

NOW multiple this by 12 to 16 armored units...they all move and attack multiple times.

AND same in defense.

In the winter if the Soviets attack armored units over and over each one uses an oil...

Just things to ponder is all.

My normal is...I fill Italy, Romania and Hungary...so I never have to give oil to Romania and Hungary after the war starts...
Italy will need it depending on how many armored units, air and navy they use. So at least start full.
Finland is a pain to get oil too...

Oil is definitely a limiting factor, I believe its costs are excessive as of now.

Units should have 2 oil cost, march and combat. But that a tank units that attack all of its movement allowance ends up consuming the whole production of Ploesti in 1 turn - that's wrong.
Thus the cost should be only paid only once per turn in my opinion. Be that you attack 1 times or 10 times.

Well if that was the case my Germany would have 30 to 40 armor and be unstoppable...

You have to have a limit since there are no armor factories...and oil to me is a pretty good one. If an armor used every ounce of oil it could it would use 21 in a turn...

2 per attack...
1 if it moves any number of hexes up to its max...

That is nearly impossible since it would be left at 20% efficiency at best after 10 attacks...

But it is possible.
