World in Flames: Issues when trying to play Fascist Tide

Post by MatrixPau »

After installing update the latest update WorldInFlames-UpdateComp-v07.00.01.00 I tried to play Fascist Tide Scenario and I get the message "The two half map scenarios, Fascist Tide and Day of Infamy are not presently available" (see image attached).
Anyone else had this issue? anyone knows how to solve it?

Last I looked, neither of the single theater scenarios for Europe or the Pacific have been finished and made available yet.

Once upon a time, in 2017, Matrix stated that the 2 individual theater scenarios were on the priority list, above completing the Artificial Intelligence Opponent (AIO). See this post. https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/view ... 0&t=318257

But it was decided from early 2023 that the AIO would be the only priority for the time being. See post here. https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/view ... &start=160

The latest report on progress, which is now over one year old (December 2023), states that once the AIO is completed, maybe they will look at completing other tasks (see first paragraph). So far, none of the tasks that were scheduled for 2024 (last section) have led to a public beta release with a functioning AIO. Read the post here.

So, it is quite unclear if Matrix will indeed ever complete the 2 individual theater scenarios. But if they do, I cannot imagine that it will be anytime soon.

I made house rules scenarios for both. You may find them useful.

Not to disappoint, but the AI is some distance off and is planned to be ONLY for the Barbarossa scenario. Then if the single map scenarios gain focus (as described in the post above yours) there will be another extensive wait and they will not be equipped with an AI.

I have tested some of the AI beta releases and it has potential to be a good tutorial on how to play the land and air parts of a game of MWIF, but I'm willing to predict that extending it beyond Barbarossa will not happen for many years, if at all.

If you really want to play the single map scenarios, the best way would be with the mods suggested.

Well, you do disappoint. Not you, per se, but this is disappointing news after waiting so long for the Fascist Tide ETO scenario and being informed that there will be another extensive wait just for the scenario and then another indefinite wait for an AI computer opponent. I've been overly patient and optimistic these past several YEARS but this is very disappointing news. Maybe one of these days in the future if I'm still kicking and the Fascist Tide scenario finally gets released, maybe I'll break my game manuals out of the plastic wrap and update my copy of MWiF. I shake my head ruefully... :(

My advice is don't wait if you wish to play the 2-map Fascist Tide scenario with MWIF. Until such (unknown) time when this update exists, I'd recommend a community mod approach.

jjdenver made a first cut at this back in November 2017 with a set of house rules. https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/view ... 9#p4213439

Honestly, I think we as a community could start there and through game file editing mods make a darn good community 2-map scenario(s) mod. I'd be happy to help, but not lead as my interest is in the global war scenario.
