specific question

World in Flames is the computer version of Australian Design Group classic board game. World In Flames is a highly detailed game covering the both Europe and Pacific Theaters of Operations during World War II. If you want grand strategy this game is for you.

specific question

Playing the Barborossa scenario.

I want to advance Finish troop into Hanko and kick out the pesky Russians fleet.

Image

As you can see Hanko is connected to the Finish mainland and even has a railroad going to it,
but my Finish units in adjacent hexes can't go there. I have plenty of Finish units in Finland
and don't get a message about 'not enough units in Finland' when I try. They just can't move there.

To continue, here are my adjacent Finish units.

This forum is really hard to post images in. You are limited to 1 per post and you
can't see a preview. That should be fixed. Anyways, can someone explain why I can't
move into Hanko? I do not understand.

Otherwise the game is going ok, but there are many confusing aspects. For example,
why is there a preliminary and final production phase? I am playing Barbarossa so
presumably don't have any of the the optional rules that would make these phases
important, but I still don't get it.

The only thing I can think of is that you have to many units outside of Finland for the move to be allowed. However, you write that you do not get that message so I am at a loss. (That hex is not counted as being part of Finland until all of the borderlands are re-conquered)

You can post a compressed version of your saved game, so we can take a look at it. (Has to be compressed; matrix games forum will not accept it if not. If using Windows, right click on save game folder, pick send to, then send to compressed folder.)
I thought I knew how to play this game....

Finland advance problem explained/work around.

After posting this problem I read the first reply, tried the move again without success or any error messages. I saved the game and shut down the PC. Today, I reloaded the game, tried to move the Finns again and bingo! There is an error message! (and yes, it's because I don't have enough units in Finland). So the problem is with the main game menu screen which for some reason stops displaying info.

This seems to be related to the problem I have with the place partisans phase. After placing the unit(s) I have to save and reload the game to progress because the end phase button is greyed out. Same fix.

Also, the black game date field on the main window is often blank. I found it frustrating that there was no easy way to see the date I was up to in the game, then saw it and thought it had been right in front of my eyes all the time. But it's not. It goes AWOL for long periods.

I will take more notice of main menu glitches from now on and post them here.

As for the other questions, I will do some more research and see if I am doing something wrong. Have edited my original post to remove them.

Thanks!

Thanks for the workaround.
I had the same issue after placing the partisans, the end phase button was grayed out.

As these two issues seem not to be related to each other, I wonder, if the cause of this phenomenon could be, that you encounter it only, if you have (unknowingly) two or more threads of MWIF open. Sometimes, when you exit the game, its thread is not closed and if you open another game, problems as described arise. You can find and close such thread only with the task manager, but not in the first division called "apps", but in the second division called "background processes".
Or by restarting the pc.

Thanks for your tips, Angeldust2.

I didn't have a save file for the partisans issue, hence I can't try to reproduce it.
But for the victory totals issue, I could reproduce it every time, even when I first run the mwif application after reboot.
