Counter Set Up

Post by U47 »

I dont know where to look for the official counter set up. I cannot seem to find it in the manual, and I am rather surprised no one has made saves for each set up. In short where can I find the information?

You will find the official setup info in the Scenarios Booklet included with the game. This is the PDF file of the Scenarios Booklet that comes with the board game. In here you will find the setup schedules for all of the scenarios.

You can access this via the Help menu.

It is possible to save a set-up but many of the unit draws for setting up are random from the various force pools. Those aren't saved because they are so variable. So someone else's set-up file is not all that useful.

When you say the 'official' set up, what do you mean? The program tells you where units have to go e.g. UK, Europe Map or whatever, and subject to those few limitations, you can place wherever you like.

Set up is always enjoyable in WIF because of the relative freedoms one has in deployment.

In terms of playing the game for the first time I can understand some of this may be daunting - but only the convoys should present any real problem.

What I would do is have a look at some of the AAR. Some of these go into detail on set up. I always find it helpful to look at someone's AAR that actually knows what they are doing. Have a look at Orm's (link below) and Posts 75 and 99 give suggested British and French convoy set up - but there are also suggested set ups (and if they are Orm's then you can take as read that they are pretty good) for other countries and other units.

Hope that helps [:)]

There was suggested that more setups were included but in the end it was decided against. Partly because the optional rules, at that point, could not be changed after the setup was made.

Now some of the optional may be changed after the game has begun.

An AI auto-setup function would be a nice start to seeing eventual AI implementation. Let players select scenario and optional rules, AI provides reasonable setups, players edit as desired, etc.
