Lend-lease via rebases?

Post by craigbear »

I have a couple of questions about lend-lease.
One way of getting an air unit into the lendee's force pool is by doing it directly. We ctr-J to open the appropriate window, the request is made, and after, it is granted and the unit enters the lendee's force pool. Easy enough and something I do all the time.
However, is there not another method? In this one, the unit has already been built by the lender, say a Mitchell bomber built by the Americans that can be placed (with pilot) in an American city. If said unit gets to a USSR city, then it can be exchanged for a lend-lease unit and used by the USSR?
First off, is this latter method viable in MWiF? In this case, can an American A/C fly to the USSR and be lent in this manner. Follow-up question... if this is possible, does it also require an American HQ in Russia to allow the A/C to land given cooperation limits?
Or is this whole scenario impossible and against the rules of the game, or within the rules, but not doable in MWiF?
Sorry if this question sounds like a lot of nonsense and I have totally misunderstand the rules. I understand that the A/C shuttle to Russia is doable under the current WiF ruleset and seem to recall it to be allowed under the version 7 rule set (RaW).

No, this is not allowed in MWIF. Nor is it allowed in WiFFE.

In order to lend/lease an aircraft the unit must be either in the force pool, or in the reserve pool. If the unit is on the map then it can not be done.

You can fly a US unit, for example, to USSR and use it there. But it would remain a US unit. And require foreign HQ rule to enter USSR. And require US supply.

MWiF does not allow players to do something allowed by the rules: Reclaim a lent plane that is in the recipient's force pool back into the original owner's force pool.
The source major power can reverse this process during this step if the striped aircraft is in the force pools or reserve pool. Move it back to the lend lease pool and move the matching aircraft to the source major power’s force pool.
Unfortunately, MWiF does not allow you to do this. This was not a deliberate change, just a bug. However, it is a bug that has been in the game from the beginning, so I don't expect it to be ever fixed.
I thought I knew how to play this game....
