The dice

Post by Courtenay »

On the first impulse of the game, the Germans made four attacks, ranging from +14 2/3 to + 19.5 against lone Polish speed bumps. The Japanese made one +9 attack against the Chinese Communist. A successful Japanese attack would make it very hard for the Communists to hold Sian.

The five dice rolls for the four attacks were 18, 11, 19, 12, and 4.

Would anyone care to guess which one of those five numbers was rolled by the Japanese?

(Your guess was right. :) )

Let me guess, the Japanese attack was a Blitz, not an Assault?

Your guess is correct.

The Chinese were really hoping to retreat their unit and have it survive. They were expecting a number somewhere around a 10. If they had known the Japanese were going to roll a 4, they would have picked blitz.

There were two decisions to be made for that combat: choice of table (Chinese) and HQ support (Japanese). In retrospect, I got both of them wrong. The Japanese did not use HQ support because they wanted to unflip everyone after a half flipped result.
