Solo AAR for Global War

Post by craigbear »

I have never done an AAR before so this will likely not look as slick as the ones I have seen here previously. Don't expect a lot of organization either, but I'll hopefully be able to tell an understandable story.

To begin, I will post the optional rules I will be guided by.

And now I'll start to tell the tale: with the setups...

All US entry chits go into the German pool. CW HQ Gort is in Scapa. A TRS sets up in South Africa (a terr was pulled) and the Queens in Sydney. USSR sets up for Persia and Rumania encroachments. Other setups are fairly standard.

Axis Impulse 1

German DoW Poland. US cares 1 chit. Ground strikes with stukas and 3-pt FTR see good results except a Polish FTR remains unflipped as well as a 5-3 in Warsaw and 1-4 in Lodz. Germany attacks 2 auto-21s and one +19 sees no disorganised units.

Japan takes a combined and lands HQ, marine and engineer in Canton and a marine and 3-2 arty in Haichow directly. Strat bombing does 1BP damage. Oh and activates Siam with US not caring.

Italy takes a combined and goes to get the 3-3 INF out of Africa.

Allied Impulse 1

Allies DoW on Germany and reserves called out. US does not care.

France takes a combined and CW a naval. USSR/USA take combined.

USA sends Nimitz and AA to Pearl. Ranger from East to West Coast. France uses TRS to pick up 5-4 in Algeria. CW TRS moves South African TERR to Bombay moves a div and 5-4 mot to Gibraltar and an AA on TRS to West Med. Covers all convoys within range of the Axis subs.

CW bombs Hanover at ext range with Hampden... no result. France bombs Stuttgart -1BP.

USSR takes East Poland and Baltic States, USA hates both and 2 chits return to force pool.
USA rebases a PBY to Midway.

Axis Impulse 2

Clear everywhere.

Germany takes a Land, Japan a Land and Italy combined.

Italy TRS Graziani to Bardia.

Japan flips both units in Chengchow. It takes the hex with no losses nor disorgs but uses all of its available air.

Germany takes Lodz in a similar way, with no losses or flips and air to spare for next impulse.

Allied Impulse 2

USSR claims Besserabia and Germany lets it.

CW land, France land, China land, others combined.

USA moves BBs from East to West Coast.

Axis Impulse 3

Clear everywhere.

Germany denies Bulg/Hungarian claims. DoW on both. Both aligned with France. USA cares about Bulgaria.

German land, Japan land, Italy combined.

Italian TRS returns to base from Red Sea.
German roll of 5 is enough to take Warsaw. Lose 2 units, one an ENG.

Rumania joins Germany. USA cares.

Germany blitzes the Hungarian Cav adjacent to Budapest. Moves Rumanian units forward to ZoC the city on all sides.

Everyone passes but France. France takes combined. France moves a unit out of Budapest hoping the turn end and the militia arrives. 30% chance.

Turn does not end on a 7.

Axis Impulse 5

Germany and Japan land. Italy combined.

German attack at +15 on Budapest. It takes the Hungarian Capital.

Thank you for putting in the effort to share your AAR with us!

A small suggestion: In order to make it easier for a casual reader to follow, you could consider to use the count of MWIF for impulses, instead of your current way to do it. The MWIF count contains more info on there the game actually is right now.

Re: Solo AAR for Global War

Post by craigbear »

Thank-you for the advice for refining my AAR.

Continuing with Mar/April 1940...

Allies win initiative... Axis does not reroll.

Weather roll is a modified 11... fine everywhere.

Allied Impulse #1

CW takes a Naval, France and China lands, and the others combineds.

CW cover Convoys. Followed by a Strat bombing run that fails to damage. France and China reposition ground units while the USA and USSR twiddle their thumbs.

Axis Impulse #2

Japan and Italy take combineds. Germany, a land.

Japanese Strat bomb yields no BP losses for China (for once).

Japan ground strikes with 2 2-factor and 1 3-factor A/C to attempt to disorganized the problematic but OOS Cav that is blocking supply to the Northern arm in any but clear weather. Germany ground strikes a hex surrounded by three German hexes in France using 2 Arty units. It has one ground strike with a 5-factor stuka on a French Hex west of Metz (France does not intercept). The Japanese flip the Cav making it 1 point in defense. The German Arty only flips 1 of the 2 units SW of Lille and fails completely with the Stuka.

Germany moves to attack two hexes in France and Japan attacks the OOS Cav. Germany moves in A/C to ground support the hex west of Metz... being far outstriped A/C wise, France considers sending an A/C in... it decides to send in an unescorted LND w/ 3 factors. Germany intercepts with a 5 STR FTR. The French LND is cleared through and returns home to near Vichy.

Germany takes both hexes losing a MOT DIV and needing to use both HQs on the front to reorganize units and a stuka. Japan takes the cav out at +21 base roll, and its supply problems are solved.

Mar/April 1940 Con't

Allied Impulse #3

Weather turns bad... rain in the temperate.

CW, France and China take a land. USA/USSR take combineds.

CW lands a MECH in France and ponders how to hunt down the partisan in India. France tries to solidify its lines. The communist Chinese also address their defenses and contemplate how to keep Sian producing for a bit longer. China stands pat.

Axis Impulse #5

Germany and Japan Land, Italy combined.

German Ground Strike against Lille flips an INF. Japan rails Terauchi HQ back to the middle of the Middle Kingom.
Germany attacks Lille... France takes a blitz (+10). Germany takes Lille with a modified 23.

May/June 40

Axis win initiative. Weather is fine everywhere except N. Monsoon.

Axis Impulse #1

Italy DoW on France/CW. USA public cares 1 chit worth.

Italy takes a Naval, Germany/Japan Land actions.

Italy fails to find in Cape St. Vincent (subs) and West Med but finds in East Med. , but they fail to find in the second round. 1 CW Cruiser sank and 2 aborted from the 3 box. No affects on Italian navy (using all 7 surprise points).

Germany does 3 ground strikes with A/C and one with Arty in France (2 A/C are against a French HQ SE of Rouen and the French 7-6 ARM NE of Paris while the other is against the hex SW of the forest hex in south Belgium w/ the Arty). Japan uses 2 Arty on Sian. France intercepts above the HQ. Germany does its own intercept with a 3-STR FTR. France aborts the stuka and Germany destroys the FTR while the pilot survives. Japan fails to turn any Chinese over in Sian.
German makes two attacks in France. Japan calls off its attempt on Sian owing to its lack of success Ground Striking. Germany sends 4 factor 2 JU-88s as Ground Support to the hex adjacent to the Belgium forest. France does not respond. The German attacks are not particularly effectived gaining the hexes but disorganizing many attackers.
