World in Flames CE vs MWiF

Post by ClipSolo »

Hey guys!
I just managed to acquire the latest deluxe board game for solo play and thought that the sale price right now was way too good to pass up.

Just a newb question that might be clear for many but couldnt find an answer to.

How different is the Matrix version ruleset compared to the latest CE (8th) ruleset? Is it possible to learn them “side by side”?

And if the mwif is an edition behind, are there plans to upgrade the ruleset here? I’ve heard mr Rowland say that this will probably be the last edition since he’s not 20 anymore and needs to do revisions of his other games too.

Can’t wait to learn these babies nonetheless!!

Thanks all,
jani

Hi ClipSolo. No, the MWIF version will not be updated. MWIF is based on the Rules set 7 (iirc). There will be some similarities and many differences - just how many I will leave to someone who has played the CE. But although MWIF is based on an older rule set, make no mistake, it is a superb game.

Thank you for the quick answer! I’ll just see the differences between 7th and 8th, so i wont get too weirded out by them!

This is something I’ve been thinking about a lot since most of the computer wargames hide the dice rolls and dont really show the mechanics behind the calculations. As a board wargamer these are the things i value a lot when immersing myself into the simulation. So yes I certainly will try to learn both of them.
