new to MWIF

Post by Redstrike01 »

Hello,

I bought MWIF two days ago.
20 years ago I started playing Wif multiple times for a period of about 12 years since then not anymore...
But a lot of the rules are still very familiar.

However MWIF confuses me as to what it can do to be played. And I am not user of Whatsapp, and most of the other internet social interaction/media.
So a few questions;
*standing orders exist or not? Is it some modding to be done by the player on its installation?
*with a PBEM, what other internet interaction tools are adviced? Atm I use skype for family and friends, is that enough?
*netplay : I have had a lot of trouble getting some other games to work, firewall and other stuff... many issues or things I best read?
*netplay : both players need to be online? I live in Europe, are there a lot of you out there that play on netplay?
*netplay : I have 3 kids... who interupt a lot... are standing orders possible in the netplay game?

I'll still be reading the rules for a while, I looked a bit at the interface and it is massive, so a big tumbs up for the developper(s) efforts
With the above questions, I'm just trying to see if I shouldn't get my hopes up to high in really playing Wif again.

Welcome.

Standing orders don't exist. One can simulate it by giving those to your opponent (or someone on the same side when playing PBEM, which you can do by sending gamesave files through e-mail).

Netplay does work, however, bugs are still around at places. If one makes a lot of gamesaves during play, you tend to be allright. Both players need to be online for Netplay. If you f.e. use Skype for communication with your opponent, it's a pretty nice experience. Multiplayer netplay isn't available at this moment in MWIF.

Skype would certainly be fine for PBEM as you can use the text messaging for when a decision from your opponent is needed.
