Questions about archers

Post by FroBodine »

Two questions:

Are Archers unable to fire over friendly units? My archers have a range of two, and I place them two hexes away from the trolls in the city, in human mission 4. They cannot fire at the troll in the city. What am I doing wrong?

Also, when I select to move units, some hexes are highlighted green and some are highlighted yellow. What do the two colors mean? Does yellow mean you can if you move to that hex, or does it mean you are in the ZOC of an enemy? Again, this relates to my archers, as it seems that I can only attack with them if I move to the yellow hex, which is adjacent to the trolls in the city.

Thanks again for any help.

After playing this game a bit, it seems that the campaign is more like a series of relatively small tactical puzzles. I have to say so far I prefer the free game Battles for Wesnoth, where the maps are larger and nicer, and there is more strategy as opposed to tactics. This game does have more choice of units and some other advantages. I particularly like the increased range of archers which in BFW have to be adjacent to shoot.

Archers may fire over friendly units but can't fire over enemies.

Yellow: it's the Zoc of the enemy units.

Red: Hex that you can attack.

Your problem to shoot: probably you have the hills and not plains in front of your archers. Hills are an obstacle to the Line of Sight.

@henri51: please play the whole game, you'll find larger maps and a lot of strategy and tactics to use in battle.

Thanks again, Fabio. I really appreciate your quick responses.

Is the hills blocking line of sight rule mentioned in the manual? I did not see anything, but I certainly could have missed it.

Hi

It is said in the first in-game tutorial ;)

In the manual you'll find the rule at page 21 (Paragraph 4.7.1 Ranged Attack).
