graphics display problem

Post by dseuss »

When I launch ATG the screen breaks in two. The right 1/3 is on the left side of the screen, the left 1/3 is on the right side of the screen, in the middle of the screen is a a big black area. I have the correct directx and play dozens of other games, including Sparta and Troy from matrix witout any problem.

The way to get this ball rolling the fastest is probably to send the logfile (in the log-directory where you installed Tin Soldiers) to support@koiosworks.com . Also include a dxdiag report, just to be sure.

dseuss,

As Murky said, can you please send the log files from the Log subdirectory where you installed the game? Also, please send along the DxDiag file (instructions at the top of this forum.) Please email to support@matrixgames.com.

You should also double-check that you have the latest video drivers for your card. In most cases, an update will fix graphics glitches such as you describe.

I have more data. The screen split does not occur on the laptop screen itself. The game display's correctly there.

It breaks up on the external monitor. I can ctl alt del to windows and after a moment of graphically chaos which begins with windows being broken up, the display corrects itself. Then when when I click on the minimized game window, the external screen goes black, and then after a moment comes back with the split display.

No other applciation I have experiences this problem, so it is not the machine or the monitor. There must be something in the game that is tripping up external monitors. Any ideas?

It could be a refresh rate issue. The game looks for 75hz and uses it if the OS says it's available. If not, it will default to 60hz. I'm only guessing, but if your monitor only supports 60hz, you might try to configure windows accordingly.

Did you set the refresh rate to 60 mhz and try that? Reading back over the problem, it does sound like a refresh issue.

If 75hz works for windows, it should work for the game. Could it be both the resolution and refresh rate? Are you running the game at 1024x768? Can your monitor handle that at 75hz? We can exclude a refresh rate issue if you can run windows on your monitor at 1024x768x75hz.
