Keyboard Controls

Post by julianbarker »

Can't see anything in the manual and have not found anything in the demo other than mouse controls. Do they exist? if not, why not? How do you zoom without a mousewheel for example? I am a potential purchaser but the Demo does not recognise zoom touch gestures on my laptop.

You could do scroll with a touchpad, drag your finger along the right edge [;)]

But it is true, the game is quite linked to work with mouse. You could use cursors to select orders if playing in dynamic mode.

By default HP Win8 Notebooks use two finger scrolling and two finger zooming instead of the old right edge method. I have gone into the driver settings and enabled right edge scrolling you suggest. This works in other applications but even that doesn't work in Qvadriga. The touchpad doesn't seem to support zooming. I would be interested to hear if other laptop owners have found the same.

I am interested in buying the game, especially as it seems ideal for playing whilst travelling, when sing a mouse would not be an option, but am finding the lack of zoom controls in the demo frustrating as it is a pain having to scroll around he arena looking for hazards because I can't get a strategic view. Until I am sure the game will play properly on my machine buying will be a difficult decision as the default zoomed in view doesn't show where the chariot will end up.

I'd personally like to see keyboard controls as alternatives to all the mousing. I have repetitive stress injury (RSI) in my mousing hand; it's a lot easier for me to hit keyboard shortcuts.

I'm not suggesting that you eliminate the mouse controls. I'd just suggest supplementing them with keyboard shortcuts: E.g., "w" for whip, "a" for accelerate, "l" for lacerate left, "r" for lacerate right, etc.

In dynamic mode it sometimes seems hit and miss when trying to click on a moving icon. Presumably, if I could zoom out it would become even harder! Keyboard shortcuts would eliminate that.

I cannot promise anything, but I will try to introduce some keyboard shortcuts for the next patch [;)]

Thanks for looking into this.

Happy to defer to Grotius as other than zoom I don't have any special requirements.

Regarding the inability to zoom using my laptop touchpad, I have checked with several other games that use the mouse wheel to zoom, and they all work perfectly well with the touchpad. For example, in Steel and Iron I can zoom using a two finger pinch, a two finger scroll or a single finger side scroll. None of these work in Qvadriga at all. Not sure why as it is a standard HP laptop with latest drivers for the Synaptic touchpad.
