Mr. McNeill,
Thank you very much for your reply. Actually, I thought this discussion had ended almost a week ago, but welcome ... better late than never.

I appreciate your kind offer of technical help ... however, I prefer spending my future dollars and time on all the other games and map/unit/scenario editors that run flawlessly on my computer - nothing against Slitherine - just a personal preference. It seems to me that there are a lot of game companies that feel that their games should be made to run on your computer, and there are still a few game companies that feel your computer should be made to run their games.

I think the following is apparent to most wargamers, but I'll risk saying it anyway ... It is important that the buyer know everything he can about a product before purchasing. Collect as much INFORMATION about the product as you possibly can, balance that information against THE COST of the product, add in your own INTEREST in the period, research which NEW GAMES are coming out (and there are many at this time!), then pull the trigger. A companies product description can also help of course, but I sometimes forget that a companies advertising is often primarily meant to sell it's product. I also sometimes forget the old adage - LET THE BUYER BEWARE. For that reason, I think that the process above and information from other buyers is especially valuable. Unfortunately, with my purchase of GBM, I didn't to follow my own process. Really dumb on my part.

As I said, I no longer have an interest in Slitherine's Great Battles Medieval, and I do feel that my money could have been better spent on a more recent wargame release. I'm sorry if that rubs you the wrong way. The fact is - I made the decision to buy, it's my money that was spent, and it is now entirely my problem.

I suspect that I will soon be very disappointed that I did not accept your kind offer of technical advice to make my computer conform to Slitherine's editor specifications when I see this GBM forum filling up with user made Great Battles Medieval maps and scenarios. Best of luck to you.
