New review by Wargamer

Frank Hunter's Campaigns on the Danube is an operational study of the campaigns along the Danube in 1805 and 1809. Campaigns on the Danube's system focuses on trying to present the player with the same sort of decisions placed on their historical counterparts; how to feed an army and move that army according to a plan, all the while trying to fight a campaign. There is also an option to allow players to play out the battles with miniatures and input the results.

"Danube is one of the easiest games to play ever, and yet a bear to master. The 37 page manual is really about scenario description and informing the player as to what is actually happening when the CPU starts to hum. Honestly playing the game doesn’t involve performing a lot of detailed processes..."

Good find and a very positive review of an updated, but old game, which has stood the test of time.

I hope Matrix reads the comments in the review, because they are wasting the potential of a very good game. More scenarios and updating the manual to match the updated game, would be much appreciated and bring the game fully up-to-date.

However, the review missed the availability of the map and counter mod, which takes the game out of its 2004 'look' and brings it a fresh new appearance.

The game may be old, but the value is in the game-play which is ageless. Quality does not age, simple to operate, but with great depth and a challenge to master.

The French have a great advantage in all scenarios, as it historically correct, but a few simple house rules can provide a challenging game, even against the AI.
