Introducing fortifications and garrison units from Frank's ACW game would add to the realism.
Here is the British General Beresford after the Battle of Albuera - 1811, where losses were very high after defending against Soult. The battle ending in a draw, but Soult later withdrew.

Isn't that just how you feel when you have made a damaging decision in CotD over which battle stance to choose. Perhaps he should have chosen 'withdraw' instead of 'defend', but the game puts you in just that position, as experienced by the actual commanders of the time.
It just makes you hope for more.
