Where was NAPOLEON

Frank Hunter's Campaigns on the Danube is an operational study of the campaigns along the Danube in 1805 and 1809. Campaigns on the Danube's system focuses on trying to present the player with the same sort of decisions placed on their historical counterparts; how to feed an army and move that army according to a plan, all the while trying to fight a campaign. There is also an option to allow players to play out the battles with miniatures and input the results.

Where was NAPOLEON

Post by Rasputitsa »

A feature of the v3.05 AAR, which I posted earlier, was where is NAPOLEON on the AI French side.

He seemed to appear in the battle stats with DAVOUT at the beginning, then later with MASENNA near INGOLSTADT and I peeked at the French side later and he seemed to be at LANDSHUT. However, apart from the early appearances he did not seem to do much, which could be a significant loss to the AI French, as NAPOLEON provides a big combat bonus.

It may be that NAPOLEON was adding that bonus, just that I did not see it, but in the scenario end screen NAPOLEON was sitting in ULM, well out of the action, which is strange.

Came across this item quoting Frank on 15th of May 2004 :

quote -

In the 1809 campaign the Napoleon HQ is "stuck" at Ulm. This was because Napoleon was still en-route to the theatre and Berthier was in charge (and doing a less than stellar job). I forget the date, but eventually the HQ is freed up.

end quote -

As mentioned, NAPOLEON is still at ULM late in the scenario, so now I am not sure how the AI NAPOLEON acts, but more convinced that the AI needs some help and that house rules are useful in obtaining balance.

Historical Note :

NAPOLEON arrived in ULM on 17th April 1809 and took over command from BERTHIER, although he had been sending orders before that time.

For complete historical accuracy NAPOLEON should be 'locked' at ULM until that turn, but I don't know how long the AI actually enacts this 'lock'.
