CNAW vs CEAW

Commander – Napoleon at War is the second in a series of high level turn based strategy games. It spans the Napoleonic Wars from 1805 to 1815, allowing players to control France or the Coalitions against it through the entire period or in shorter scenarios. Easy to learn, with fun and addictive gameplay, this is a Napoleonic wargame in the style of the old "Panzer General".

I think Alaric, who made some modifications for CEaW and now for CNaW gave us the biggest compliment.

If you enjoyed CEaW, you will like CNaW. The use of combined arms, different supply, economy, weather effects and tactics are maybe the key features of change.

Give it a try and enjoy the game.

Congrats on enhanced 1.06 patch AI

Only let to know that in large advantage the computer opponent AI is nearly to give a very good challenge, maybe need earlier commitment from Britain units, 1807/1808, can damage balance but then, still, the newcomers can set to lesser difficulty. I test a game on my most recent version of my mod, very glad to see Russians build up artillery and cavalry, very glad on Russian commitment on Koenigsberg Prussian second capitol, thanks for this game, best of year for me.

Great game, I enjoy it greatly, and dynamic! Manage to finish each game or play on less than a week, the average time for default plays on turn based strategy games strategic scope games, developers have indeed find the just right balance at the exact middle, for the best, between playability, realism and playing needed time, great job!

With best regards,

Alaric

So you want details... [:)]

CNAW has an improved engine compared to CEAW in many ways and an improved look & feel. If you fancy WW2, CEAW will appeal to you better. If you like to play quick and small battles sometimes, then CNAW is preferred since CNAW support both big and small scenarios.

Mostly, ppl that like CEAW will also like CNAW. People that like CNAW will like CEAW. If you do like the series already you should like Commander - Napoleon at War (CNAW).

The shift in era from WW2 to Napoleonic was done in many ways to make it more realistic and favour groups rather than front lines. That is why supply system is made less harsh and so on. The tactics and weapons are different compared to WW2 so even if you played CEAW there is something new to learn here.

Siege warfare and dynamic weather system are some of the bigger improvements that have to be mentioned right away!

Multiplayer should be a lot better in CNAW since it allows short scenarios. Some of them you finish in just 1-2 hours in fact (unless PBEM which take longer). The longest scenarios are even bigger than CEAW though, so the span is wider and suits more players overall.

If you are a newcomer to wargames, CNAW is even easier than CEAW to get into.

note: Commander Napoleon at War (CNAW) is a sequel to Commander Europe at war (CEAW)

P.s a lot of the early talks on the game has been referring to the 1.00 version of the game, same in the reviews. The newest game version is 1.06 released after several betas tested publicly. The 1.06 patch compared to 1.00 has around 60-70 changes at leist (some changes are noted more briefly being listed as just "one" change) and around half of them is related to AI improvements.

All in all, game is even more stable than CEAW and crashes are extremely rare. [8D]

Here is a quote on a keyword topic on CNAW that I wrote on Slitherine forum a while back

"Might try something unique and show some of the keywords of the game in a short manner

Vassals, Revolts, Privateers, Short Scenarios, Grand Campaigns, Merchant Looting, Convoys, Scorched Earth Tactics (Razing Cities), Upkeep cost, Disband, Combined Arms Bonus, Horses needed, Siege Warfare, Plundering Supplies, Admirals, Generals, Science, Retreats, Victory Locations, Fog of War, PBEM, TcpIP, Dynamic Weather System, Manpower, Wagon Movement.

Edit:
Road movement bonus"

Here is also a very fun AAR between two players using CNaW 1.06:

It may help you to get a better feel for the game.

CNAW is a much superior game to CEAW. Very enjoyable to play and well balanced. What we need now is a similar game to cover WW1.

I fully support this...WW1 and you've got one copy sold already....[:)] (I already have two copies of CEAW (original and Military History).

Can someone who's played both expand on the balance issue? I love CEAW, but after a year of almost constant playing have gotten a bit frustrated ... it seems every game goes the same, with the Axis unstoppable for the first 2-3 years, then getting creamed. CEAW is best when the Axis and Allies are of relatively equal strengths in a particular theater and are slogging it out, but moments like this are few and far between. Is CNAW better in this regard?

Hi.
I just finished my first game of CNAW at next to highest level v1.0.6. The AI wasn't much of a challenge ( compared to say in Panzer General II, campaign series (which is more scenario design or AI) or SCII. Is either the campaign in CEAW or the AI more challenging? I like the game system and would like to play CEAW but am wondering if there will be much of a challenge :-(
THanks,
Lin
