On Sale. Should I jump?

This sequel to the award-winning Crown of Glory takes Napoleonic Grand Strategy to a whole new level. This represents a complete overhaul of the original release, including countless improvements and innovations ranging from detailed Naval combat and brigade-level Land combat to an improved AI, unit upgrades, a more detailed Strategic Map and a new simplified Economy option. More historical AND more fun than the original!

I have just been getting this old classic reinstalled. I wouldn't take the lack of activity on this forum as a "bad sign." CoGEE in its final form is a fantastic game. Sure, it isn't going to be for everyone; if you are an FPS or high-end graphics addict, then obviously a game like this would never satisfy. Even a lot of the RTS crowd might not enjoy it.

But if you are a strategy gamer, if you have any interest in history or Napoleonic era in particular, if you have some patience and you enjoy a game that is not formulaic, then CoGEE is one of the best.

Except that it covers a more narrow stretch of history, I place the design, balance, and experience of CoGEE on a par with Civilization III, maybe even Civ IV (though the enhanced graphics in Civ IV make that a dubious comparison).

It is a shame that things seem to have gone quiet on CoGEE. Back in the day there were a lot of us who were very enthusiastic about it. We had some great PBEMS. Really only reason I've been 'absent' is: I played it so damn much I burned out, and then got caught up in other RL stuff, other games, etc.

For strategy wargamers with even a passing interest in Napoleonic era. I would say CoGEE remains a MUST HAVE.

Am very glad to see positive comments like this, since I'm new to Matrix and just purchased the game.

Now I just have to dive in... I gave up a passionate, lifelong interest in historical wargaming (board and PC) back in 2001 -- but the spark has been rekindled.
