how long should we wait

AGEod goes back to the Napoleonic era and delivers the most detailed and comprehensive strategy game ever created about a time of struggle and conquest that forged modern Europe.

how long should we wait

Post by everton »

just a quick question, for all us average tech challenged players who just want to have fun, how long should we wait before we buy this game.
I have civ war 2 and to end all wars and accept every now and again they crash but reading this forum it seems this game
is really not ready for us average players, i love the game engine and how it plays but I like most people want to buy a finished product that works,
advice from more advanced players would be appreciated

Definitely wait, though hard to predict how long. WoN has more issues than other recent AGEOD releases - the biggest being CTDs and events that refuse to fire. There are several other annoying issues, but these are the biggest showstoppers at the moment. They're working on both but still have a ways to go.

Best advice probably is to keep an eye on the AGEOD forum.

Unlike bookshops, AGEOD is fixing the issues.

there is a huge amount of noise from a few very disgruntled people. For some reason there is an issue with CTD for some set ups. I've not had one and I don't think I am using a particularly advanced IT set up. As ever, those happily playing etc are not necessarily venting their annoyance here or over on the AGEOD forums.

it would help a lot if some of the 'game is completely broken' posters would actually indicate what the problem is - that either (a) helps with sorting out real issues or (b) allows someone to provide some advice that might sort out the issue for them

As Queeq said best keep an eye on the AGEOD forums :( Pff

it would be really helpful if rather than just complain you gave some idea what is wrong ... if you are not used to the AGE game system people tend to make mistakes ... so its feasible that if you are clear about your problems then they may well be easy to sort out?

Yep it is really helpful for them to have us beta test there games for them, but not me coz you are wright i am not used to there game systems.

In fact this is only my second attempt at trying to get to grips with there system which i find a bit overwhelming TBH and dont feel that i have much atall to offer at this time, cant recall just who it was now but they said
something like "if you are one of the many ppl trying to learn there system this is the one to learn from and when you have come to grips with it the rest will fall into place" which is why i bought this game strait away coz i know they are great games when you learn how to play them.

But this is not about me you know there are many ( who knows just how many coz only about 2 or 3% actualy use these forums ) who will be trying to learn there games but just look how many both here and over at AGEOD whom are feeding AGEOD with massive amounts of info about where they go wrong with all of there games ( in effect beta testers .

Soo i dont even try to learn a broken systems, i can see whats going on just by reading all the posts on both forums

i will be quit happy playing any one of the 60 MATRIX games i have here and when they get round to fixing this game
thats when i will do my best to learn the AGEOD system.

So Ioki100 i ask tou to not even reply to this i am making it VERY clear that i am bowing ouy of any disscusion on this gane from now on and will be a mere spectator, also i dont want to end up falling out with anybody.

But there are many folk here for you to make your valid points to, just remmember we all want the same thing in the end.

As a long-time AGEOD fan, like me, you are well aware of AGEOD's past games and the sorts of commentary, both good and bad, that their games typcially generate. You're certainly right that those with problems generally speak loudest. And, yes, it's true that some folks will buy and happily play any new game AGEOD releases regardless of bugs.

But if you truly believe that this game is representative of AGEOD's past work, and that the forum traffic is indicative of a sound game, then - respectfully - you're in denial.
it would help a lot if some of the 'game is completely broken' posters would actually indicate what the problem is - that either (a) helps with sorting out real issues or (b) allows someone to provide some advice that might sort out the issue for them

I've done that, as have many other "complainers." And, you're right, that's important and constructive.

But something else is also important: When someone posts a question about the state of the game, asking for advice on how to spend their money, it's important to be honest with them and not just be a cheerleader for the developer.

thanks for all advice, I guess I will wait a few days and keep checking the forum, I do feel that ageod/matrix would in light of the posts about the problems encountered make some official post about its suitability for customers new to ageod or us average technically useless old timers
btw siddiuos I meant no insult I just misread your first text

Only have run into two problems.

1: The memory leak that crashes the game if you don't shut it down and restart. Just happened last night, and I had to delete it. (Wouldn't even load.)
Now if you, after a turn or two, shut down and restart, it won't happen. It doesn't happen in PBEM games.
