CTD's? I don't get it.

AGEod goes back to the Napoleonic era and delivers the most detailed and comprehensive strategy game ever created about a time of struggle and conquest that forged modern Europe.

CTD's? I don't get it.

Post by Johnus »

To be fair, the Napoleonic Wars is an ambitious subject for a game. One expects that there might be
teething issues with such a project.

But crashes? Isn't this the same engine that was used in Birth of America all those years ago? I
know nothing about computer programing. But shouldn't an engine this old, which has been used in so
many successful and stable games, be stable?

I am an old fan of AGEOD. This is maybe my favorite military history subject. The maps are beautiful. The
counters, especially the leader depictions are exquisite. All the raw materials are in place. And I
would bet that most of, or at least a good portion of, the hard work is already done.

Please fix this game. I purchased it, and would do so again to support AGEOD. But I also want to play it,
real bad.

I am of the same opinion.
I have shelfed the game until it is playable. Waiting for a formal bug-fix (the beta are OK but a formal bugfix would sign "Yes we do support the game" Instead of publish and forget.

How often do you have CTDs? I am playing the game for hours and then I have maybe a crash. It is playable. My current game is at turn 120.

And no this isn't the same engine anymore. It is updated and extend.

There is a new Beta-patch here http://www.ageod-forum.com/forumdisplay ... mprove-WON

I broke my golden rule of never buying a game when it first comes out when I bought this. I figured its AGEOD so its probably a safe bet. Boy was I disappointed! I too have shelved the game until an OFFICIAL patch comes out. I don't mess with Betas but that's just me.

Biggest disappointment in gaming for me in a long time. With the time it is taking them to resolve this makes me think that WoN may be un-fixable. I certainly hope I am wrong as I was waiting for this game for a long time.

Properly Applied Patch?

Post by Omnius »

Johnnie,
I also had a lot of CTD's but finally figured out my problem. I was using the 3/24/16 patch from the AGEOD forum but didn't understand how to properly get it to update the correct files as it always wanted to create a new folder set. After copying files from the folders of the second patch folder to the original game one I finally was able to enjoy the many improvements of the 3/24/16 patch.

If you've restricted yourself to the totally lame 1.011 perversion then that's your problem as that version isn't worth playing at all. I had to laugh at some tripe over at the AGEOD forum where one of the team lied about what a success that pathetic excuse for an official patch was. There are just so many problems with 1.011 that it can't be played.

I just downloaded the newest 4/11/16 patch and am now going to apply it. I hope it's installation is easier than the 3/24/16 one.

Max 86,
I've been waiting a long time since Napoleon's Campaigns to see if AGEOD has improved their game system. Unfortunately they're stuck in the past and don't really fix things that don't work well, although I have seen a few improvements. As always the Athena Ignorance is pathetic beyond belief.

I usually like to wait a long time after a game is released before playing but I got seduced by the 30% off Easter sale. A shame they didn't wait and introduce their upcoming new game system with WoN.

Sorry, but I give up. Now that I was (finally) successful at installing the April 11 public beta, I consistently crash on the first attempted move. This game is broken. At least for me, it is becoming less stable. Frankly, if the patch installation path is an issue, why would one expect the game to run smoothly. I will not touch this game again until others have posted that it totally fixed and totally stable. This is just too frustrating.

Installed the newest Beta Patch now - no problems here. Won't help you probably.

Why don't you post your Logs in the TechHelp Forum and let yourself help instead of complaining in the general forum and shelfing the game?

Yup, post your issues on the tech support forum. I did, both here and on Ageod forum, and both times they have fixed it for me (apparently turn the memory settings down to 10% and leave off texture initialisation). Works now.

I though I was being smart by waiting for the Steam release. I spent an hour learning about the interface in the first turn of the tutorial. Pressed next turn and got CTD. I returned immediately. Does has there been an official patch since May? I hear they will have a new engine soon. Hopefully it will work better with modern operating systems. Is the upcoming Succession Wars using the new engine? If so, I'll try it, but for now, I'm through with their games. I use Steam so that I don't have to fiddle with patches. It's 2016.

I picked up the game this week for the first time in months. I installed the 1.02 patch but still had CTD problems.

I ran the Uninstaller utility, then deleted the remaining files in the WoN folder and the hidden folder.

I then reinstalled the game from my original download, applied the 1.02 patch and the 1.03 public beta patch.

So far, so good.

ETA: After the delete and re-install, I played the entirety of 1805 in the Jan 1805 campaign without a single CTD.
