System Specs for Fence Sitters

Post by Adam Parker »

Thought I'd post some observations for those sitting on the fence regarding system specs for this game, seeing that 1gb of RAM and 128 video is being recommended for AACW over the 384mb needed for Birth of America.

I've got the game successfully running on 2 machines:

1. P4 2.8 with 512 RAM and a 128mb nVidia GeForce Ti4200 with 8x AGP video card.

2. Pentium M 760 2.0 laptop with 1gb RAM and integrated graphics.

The 512mb desktop does get jerky when scrolling from one extreme end of the map to the other but caching the map by a pre-game scroll around does help. It it is firing fine with all game textures maxed. The 1gb laptop is smoother despite the integrated graphics.

Both systems experience a longer game load than for BoA. This can last 2-3 minutes to get to the scenario selection screen but the on-hold music is great [;)]

The rulebook for AACW seems to follow the order of BoA's with what looks like added detail and ACW relevant rules thrown in.

For those wanting a great introduction to the ACW, try to get hold of the 3 page essay in the Forge of Freedom manual. It's the only thing that at this stage I can see missing from AACW's package.

Hope this helps. I'll post more as I get deeper into the game with hopefully a good thumbs up.

Adam.
