Disappearing Generals?

Early in the Campaign Game a whole slew of generals show up in DC looking for work. I did not use them right away.

But, when I went back a few turns later to find them, they were gone.

Where did they go and how do I find them?

If they are still in the game you can find them by pressing F1 and sorting the list of units - pick generals, which is the topmost selection on the left - and all your generals will be listed. The fellows location will be listed, and if you click on the star in the upper right of his box the map will center on his location.
