A few questions about ACW

AGEOD’S American Civil War - The Blue and the Gray is a historical operational strategy game with a simultaneous turn-based engine (WEGO system) that places players at the head of the USA or CSA during the American Civil War (1861-1865).

A few questions about ACW

Post by Deca »

1) There looks to be a Map Error for Pamlicoe Bay. The Map has Pamlicoe Bay printed on it, but when you highlight it the tool tip states, Pamlicoe Sound. It looks as if the tool tip is the actual zone, correct?

2) From looking around at the river & costal water zones it seems that all of the zones list that you need 12 naval elements in order to blockade that zone. Is this a fixed number that cannot be changed by in game events, battles, or any other things in game?

3) If a union Naval Force does not have their Fleet Order set to bombard, will they ever initiate any type of attack against a land based stack or fort while moving along a river? For instance, if I have NOT set the Bombard order for JADahlgreen's monitor Fleet, but have the posture set to Assault, will that fleet attempt to enage any land based fort or land based stack?

4) If I do not have my Fleet set to Bombard, will enemy Forts & entrenched 5+ stacks automatically shoot at my fleet as it moves past in the adjacent zone/river?

5) Can a large enough naval fleet with the bombard command destroy (ie the damage done is permanent) a pre-war fort? What about causing a breach in a pre-war fort or permanent fort?

6) Some of the coastal forts are not entirely obvious in whether or not they have a land connection to the mainland. What, if any, are the mainland connections to places such as Ft Monroe, Ft Pulaski, Ft Fisher etc... ? How can a player definitively tell whether or not one region connects other than attempting to highlight each surrounding area in order to see if it looks as if it might touch?

(7) When I have "Regroup Armies" enabled under the options, I do not ever get my armies stacked together. Instead, after I click my turn to end, they are still scattered in the region. Have I missed something?

Hi,

(1) post this request in the AACW enhancements requests in the AGEOD forum, if you want a real chance to have the mod been done one day :)
(2) it is always 12 yes, this can be modded though (see the AACW modding forum, AGEOD forum)
(3) No you won't bombard.
(4) Yes you will be bombarded.
(5) No. The units inside will receive damages, but no breaches can be caused (can be a suggestion for improvement though!)
(6) select one of the unit in the fort, then press shift. You will see the links and their nature.
(7) I'll check that, thanks.

Sidenote: I don't read everyday the Matrix forum now.

I appreciate that.

I do have some additional Questions after Re-reading the ACW Wiki as well as Re-reading the manual again:

(A) ""Each State has limited resources so it can only field a limited number of troops for the side controlling it. You won’t be able to raise
more units in a State than this maximum value.""

In other words, it led me to think that after raising X amount of recuits that it would be depleted forever, or at least until enough time passed. How can I find out that Maximum Value? Where is it listed?

(B) "Corps from the same Army located in adjacent regions may answer the call"
Will the Corp always attempt to do this when it is in the same region or adjacent region?
Is there anyway that I can disable that without having to disband it as a Corp? There might be some situations where I do not want a Corp to "marching to the sound of the guns"

(C) Other than the listed stats & traits, are there any differences between those 1 star generals with pictures vs those 1 star generals without pictures? I thought I read that there was not, but I wanted to make sure.

(D) Pertaining to Frontage: ""Depending on a region’s terrain, the maximum number of sub-units that can deploy and fight in a battle will vary. Sub-units unable to deploy will be held in reserve and relieve weakened troops in the frontline during the battle.""
Is there anyway to find out the Frontage values? I realise that they vary for terrain, as well as for unit type, but I'd like to get at least some concept of relative frontage costs/values.

There is a limit to the number/type of brigades allowed to each state. It's in the reinforcement list.
(B) "Corps from the same Army located in adjacent regions may answer the call"

I can' think of any. The corps returns to its original location after battle. As far as I know its entrenchment value stays the same (altho I don't know if there are cohesion penalties for 'marching' to the battle).
(C) Other than the listed stats & traits, are there any differences between those 1 star generals with pictures vs those 1 star generals without pictures? I thought I read that there was not, but I wanted to make sure.

What Aurelian said.

There used to be one for BoA. Don't remember one for AACW.

The only way to stop the corps from marching is to put a fixed unit in it.

"Button to prevent marching to the sound of the guns instead of having to add a fixed unit to a stack to prevent it."

Corps in passive posture don't march. They rest, drink beers and go ... hum you know. [:'(]
