Obscure Generals

Is a poll really going to work when you get to generals where everyone says, "Who the H@$L is this?" With a list of a thousand to go through, it's going to happen. I'm sure lots of people can look them up, but the result is going to dependant on the source viewed.

If the guy's unknown, that's a good reason not to make him a 100-percenter. And, since there will be more potential 25-percenters than we need, I myself will make the last cuts for the 25-percenters (of course taking into account how the voting went), so if a guy is truly obscure, he won't end up as one.

Of course, the people who suggested these guys might want to explain why they thought them worthy of being 100-percenters or 25-percenters.

What about those making the 9% list? They still need ratings.

Oh, I misunderstood. I thought you meant some of the guys in the lists up for voting, since more than a few are only known to Civil War buffs. (I'll admit that I had to read up on more than one of them.)

Regarding the remaining 950 or so, for now (I believe), Eric has given them randomized ratings (no doubt using his beloved Gaussian curves, or a dartboard), but we are hoping that once we get the biographies project up and running the people who write the mini-bios of each guy will be willing to give us recommendations. As you might have read on the bios-related forum thread, our plan is to assign the writing of bios to volunteers, and then we'll post their initial drafts for review (preferably through a wiki system). So by the time of the first or second patch, even the most obscure generals will have ratings that have at least some semblance to reality.
