FoF on speed!

I played the game years ago, and very happily, on XP. I've now installed the latest version on Win 10 and some of the map management speeds are way out of control. I used to be able to motor comfortably about the map using the cursor, but now the merest touch sends me to the other side of the screen. Also, on the battle maps enemy units emerge with blinding speed - very disconcerting and disequilibrating (my heart jumps into my mouth almost every time).

Is there something I can do to remedy this?
