Graphic mod - Unit icons *updated v2.0*

Post by mdpeyrot »

This mod replaces the unit icons on the strategic map with icons based on NATO symbols commonly used in wargames.

* Updated: General icons reduced in size 25%. Anchor symbol for fleets reduced 50%. New flags added to allow you to use NATO symbols for armies, corps, and divisions. To use, simply change the units flag (click on the unit's flag at the botom of the screen). A pop up directory will show the available flags. Look for the word "Nato" since it shows a flag symbol in the flag list. The Nato symbols will show a national flag in the unit info window and a NATO symbol on the map. You can choose from small, medium, or large symbol.

to use:
copy the pcx files to your Forge of Freedom directory, preserving the directory paths in the zip file (i.e. the zipped files are in the proper folders already). Back up the existing files first.

Link:FoF_Nato_2.0.zip
The download is up to 6Mb now due to the inclusion of the flag files.

Once again, good work. I was wondering if it would be possible to make few adjustments.

1) For the General symbols, anyway to make them smaller like all the other nato symbols? This way less space would be taken up.

2) Any way to change the container groups symbols to be nato (instead of flags) just like on the Overview Military Group map? Once again, would provide more space and be consistent with other Nato symbols.

I certainly understand if this is not possible, but I thought I would ask anyways.

I agree. I'll reduce the size of the leader Icon by 25%.

The container symbols are from the flag file. I'm working on figuring out how the flags work so I can make a 'flag' that looks like a Nato symbol. That should do the job.

...oh yeah. This will work nicely.

First of all, great job. Just curious though, do I have to select every unit and change each flag, or is there some global method? Also how do you do it for the enemy since it does not appear you can change their flags?

Excellent and accurate Flags!!! Thank you very much!!! [:)] [&o] [:)]

I just got the game and over the next few days or so will begin to play, using your symols and flags.

I am glad to see the Cherokee and Choctaw flags. I mod TalonSoft battleground games and have used many of these flags before.

Also, Flag Number 102 or 101, listed as a South Carolina flag right after the Cherokee Braves flag, seems to be the flag type used by Richard taylor's army during the 1864 red river camapign. I am not familiar with it being a South Carolina flag, but if you have some info. about this I would appreciate knowing about it.

The flags for many of Taylor's units were made by Confederate exile women and people in Cuba, and they mistakenly reversed the colors. I like this falg though, looks good.

You did a great job with these flags!!! I have a very large book, hardcover, that deals with all the flags used by the Union, including Army, Corps, Division and Brigade and Arms of Service Flags etc. I am glad you put these flags into your work!! Great!!

Have a great Holiday Season, Chris S.

I have dowloaded this mod and really look forward to using it. A couple of questions.

I am not a mod wiz and am wondering where to place your files to make the mod work right. Is there a way to add this to a rule selection list? (if not) Please matrix give us a patch that will implement this as a rule choice.

Another mod on a private server that no longer is available.

Guys, can we get someone who has this to post it up on a public server somewhere?
