New Divisions?

Post by ohlite »

Hello all, I new to the game and trying to learn one thing at a time. I cant figure out how to create new divisions or corps or armies.....I can transfer units in and out of existing groups, but cant make new one. Is this not possible? For example I have general Bragg and three newly recruited regiments in the Atlanta area. How do I form the 3 regiments into a new division with bragg in charge? thanks in advance for any help.

You have three regiments and want to combine them into a division? I hope I understood you correctly, and I will for the rest of this reply act like I did [:D]

In FoF there are three types of military units;
1. Generals
2. Brigades/ships
3. Containers.

A division is the lowest form of "container" (corps and army being higher (only fleets are available for naval units)), and is not an actual unit per ce. So those three brigades cannot on their own combine into a division, they can however be PLACED in a division (for the CSA, each division container can have 6 brigades).

All containers are built like normal units. If you go to the city screen, there is a button that says "show cities that can create divisions" or something like that (also one that says the same for corps/army). Click that button, and only the cities with enough barracks to build a division (two barracks if memeory serves me well) will be shown. You can then order the formation of an empty division container and place those brigades in it.

You can then place Bragg in the division as well, and he will take command of it (1 star generals = briagde general, 2 star generals = divisional generals, 3 star generals = corps generals, 4 star generals = army general, 5 star general = overall national army leader (think Lee/Grant)).
So in an army with 2 corps each with 2 divisions, you would want 1x4star, 2x3star, 4x2star, and as many 1stars as you have spare brigades. If you play tactical battles, remember that 4,3 and 2 star generals will command one brigade each, so leave one brigade for each of them without a general.

Hope this made it a little clearer, if not, ask again, and I will try to reply when I am not dead tired [:)]
