Line of sight & "spotted" units question

Post by severn8212 »

I am kinda new to the BG series and have a question concerning LOS & "spotted" units. When in the movement phase, I have been turning "on" the "visible hexes" button and the "spotted" units button as well. Can someone explain this a bit better than the game manual does? Is it true that even though there is a LOS to an enemy unit(s), the friendly may not be spotted yet? What exactly should be my strategy as I am moving units as far as LOS & "spotted" units? For example, if I am moving a unit and see no LOS hex available except for those from some artillery units on a ridge, will those cannon be able to fire at my unit? Should I move them til there is absolutely zero LOS hexes to avoid being fired upon (at least in the planning stages of an attack/defense)? Any help or clarification would be appreciated...perhaps I am just making it more complicated than it is and am not reading or understanding it correctly...

Thanks
Bill

If you are in LOS, you will be spotted and, if in range, may be fired upon unless you are in terrain such as woods. In that case, you will not be spotted unless you fire. At least that is how I remember it (it has been a while).
