In the middle of Battle, overview:

This is against the AI, still getting used to the system.

Tell if there are errors in my tactics so far.

The right.Nothing happening but Huber's 2 calvary units defending a V-hex and securing the right flank:

Interesting. The AI seems to be doing better than normal as far as I can see. QB is a good scenario to begin with.

I'm not sure what's in the chateau hex. If it's formed troops you should be able to capture it. If it's a skirmisher unit you can shoot away until doomsday and never get anywhere....and meleeing is a costly affair. It's not valuable anyway, it's the crossroads you want to capture.

What are the casualties like so far?

I've lost:
1525 Infantry
1350 Calvary

British Killed:
2025 Infantry
325 Calvary
10 Artillery

That chateau is defend by a regiment and a Stength 1 arty battery.I will by pass it and head for the crossroads.

Right click on the chateau hexes. Look for where it says gate. You can only attack them where it says gate or wall, not 'high'. Melee from that direction, therefore.

That's a lot of cavalry to lose at 8 points a pop. Even so the AI does appear to be doing well, normally it's a romp for the human side.

You can melee into them through the gate. If you have isolation effects on try cutting them off for a while. otherwise it's best to leave them an escape rout (another gate) to retreat from.

There are some good articles on tactics, including chateauxs in the 'articles' section of the Napoleonic Archives.

Argh, not looking good.

I tried to push on the advance, but my forward units get mowed down by vollies from British Infantry.3 units rout. The garrison at the chateu routs, but I am not able to take it:

The garrison rallies, and the british begin to retreat.Looks like nothing but a few scattered skirmish units:

The Battlefield is filled with blood and bodies, something I like about this game as it adds flavor and you can really tell where the action happened after the Battle.

BTW, most(perhaps all) of my calvary casualties were from that large engagement from the left.

I just played QB as French against the AI .......Wellington and 50 staff officers charged 600 cavalry, lost the melee and Wellington was taken prisoner. I had a major victory after 8 turns without having to take the crossroads. And without checking points for leaders either. And I didn't even use one division. Your AI must be rather more determined than mine, although in fairness it performed better than in Waterloo.

Osprey,

Sir! I could point out a couple of facts:

1) I was playing a real opponent.
2) I ended my AAR's with an explanation; the second primarily because of your rudeness.

I suppose you thought you were making a point by posting an AAR on something other than Gettysburg, however I'd be embarrassed to post an AAR on a game against the AI.

my regards,
Neal.....

I think of it as an opportunity to return a favor.

I wouldn't care if the same battle were posted here 100 times, as if I grew tired of AAR's on the battle I would probably just stop reading them. I was happy to PBEM for the first time and contribute something to the forum. I'm certain I'll never do so again.

My compliments,
Neal......
