Revised GOA manuals

Post by delusan »

Have been on the verge of buying GOA for awhile, worrying mainly about the forum comments re: the poor manual. Now that Matrix is providing a revised manual for game owners, have the original manual shortcomings been overcome?

Well I've bitten the bullet and begun work on an updated form of the manual. I'm not changing that much, mostly just incorporating the many nuggets of information that have been put on the forum. The aim is to create a more complete guide to the game. I'll be sending it to Frank/Matrix as soon as it's completed for their approval & review.

Well, the revised manual has been available online since January of 2008 actually and most feedback I've seen suggests that it's significantly better than the original. I'll be interested to see what newmanovci has in the works though.

I'm very happy to contribute. And thanks very much for the offer Frank. I do have a few questions, which I'll run by you via email shortly.

I won't claim too much credit for this effort ;-) Some of the revisions will be mine, but a lot is lifted from the excellent guides & AARs that have been posted. I intend to give full credit where it's due.

Luckily, English is my first language and I'm kind of 'in the trade' with writing about software. I've never worked officially as a technical author, but I've been in software implementation and sales consultancy for quite a few years now and that's involved a fair amount of technical authorship, along with plenty of experience in writing and delivering training courses. So that should help :-)

Well I have been around the block for some time and would offer my assistance as well. Newmanovci you are welcome to mail me at wifrules@gmail.com (hmm perhaps I should change that to goarules [:)]) and I will gladly help out.

Proficiency with English, knowledge about GOA and with wargames requirements are well known to me.

are you going to include a hot key list? i just got the game and am running through some of the tutorials in the aar section of the forum.
the program says "C" is the hot key showing control. IT IS NOT! "C"is a cancel command.
"K" is the hot key for hex control.

I sent the revised manual to Frank some time ago. I assume he's been busy, what with Christmas etc. Frank, can you confirm that you received it?

I did indeed [:)]. Just resent it now to fhunter@telus.net. Please note: the manual is correct only as of the most recent non-beta patch.

Frank,

Have you had chance to review the revised manual yet? I've been asked if I can release it, but I'm reluctant to do that until I get the green light from you, or someone who works for Matrix.

Thanks,
Newmanovci
