Q-AKs are best sent alone or with other transports. They essentially try to attract enemy subs or even destroyers since they show up as basic AKs on the map.
AMCs are best sent in a pack with other AMCs. They can be used to blockade, to build minefields. I like to use them to attack enemy ASW groups.
Train ships before sending them on missions as starting experience will be low. Change captains, as 95% will be only in 20s / 30s.
Read my older AAR (Cautionaries) to see how much havoc can 60 AMCs cause around Japanese mainland
